Adam Witty and Dan Kennedy provide the secret to radically increasing the profitability of virtually any business--writing a book. I am a long-time Dan Kennedy follower and based on advice that I got from him in 2003, wrote a book that changed my business and changed my life. I then wrote additional books that continue to improve my brand, my reputation and change the perception of both prospects and existing clients. With writing a book you can achieve the status of trusted advisor, not nuisance salesman. I conservatively estimate the value of writing my books at $5M, even though I got less than $50,000 in royalties. There were a lot of things I knew in Book the Business, but frankly think are true gold for people who are considering writing a book. I also relearned some ideas and got a bunch of new ones, any one of which could be worth many thousands of dollars. I highly recommend this book for any ambitious business owner who is looking to dramatically increase their business, their positioning, their reputation, and their life. The one warning that I would give is the author doesn't stress the importance to write a good book. I actually have a lot of discerning clients figuring out who to trust and where to invest their $1M and a lousy book would not have worked with them. But, don't let that stop you from buying this book. You will get great ideas and hopefully be inspired to change write a book and change your business and change your life. It will also be very helpful to authors who have written a book but didn't take the write steps to monetize the book. This book is not about writing a book. It is about how to get the most leverage out of a book to further your business our clout. But you should read this if you intend on writing a book because it will tell you what to expect ahead of time. So, if you are going to write about copywriting or how to build websites, it shows you how to use a book to get more customers and clients. And for that I give it the highest markings. This book will not tell you how to write a book or the process of writing a book. But, if you're really busy, you could hire a premium ghost writer to do that for you. Then, you cold implement the tactics in the book. Written by 2 highly seasoned copywriters and marketers, it is an excellent dissertation in how to promote yourself.

At long last, I negotiated the stack on the bedside table and made it to this book. I only wish I had read it earlier! I'll preface this review by saying that I've been a customer of both Dan Kennedy and Adam Witty and have paid both of their companies considerable 5-figure sums - so, needless to say, I am already a believer, admirer, and an advocate for what they both do. Dan Kennedy is one of my favorite business authors because his direct, no nonsense, anecdotal writing style makes his writing nearly as enjoyable as that of your favorite fiction author. That said, some of the books he has co-authored with others have seemed a bit disjointed because of the different writing styles of the authors. I found myself laboring through one person's content and looking forward to the next Kennedy chapter. Not so with "Book the Business". Adam Witty more than holds his own with Dan and both provide great insights on using a book to further monetize one's business. Having read this, I'm now reenergized to do more with my existing book, and I'm motivated to write additional books that will have specific, intended purposes and goals in furthering my various business interests. So whether you're thinking of writing your first book, or you already have one "in the can", Book the Business is a must read! Let's be clear. The purpose of this book is to sell you on being an author, with the hopes of you doing business with the authors. I'm a huge Dan Kennedy student and fan. Pretty much everything he writes is gold...and self promotional. But he's a marketer. One of the best and highest paid. If he didn't use books to market, what kind of marketer would he be? So why am I giving this book 5 stars? Because it really does deliver what you want to know. The book is an encyclopedia of how to use your own book to market. Having a book in print is probably the single most profitable thing I've ever done. Not from the book sales profits, but from the positioning it gives, and the way people accept you as an authority. A book is also just about the best, and cheapest prospecting tool you can use. And it's a prospecting tool that sell you as the "Go to guy". If the thought of writing a business book as a marketing tool, has ever occurred to you...you need this book.
