A very good multitask / tactical knife
First of all this is only the second CJRV knife I own but I'm very impressed with the quality of both of them. This is my first fixed blade from this company and I'm very impressed with the quality. The handle is extremely ergonomic and comfortable No hot spots and the blade and the scale seem to be matched up fairly well. The tang protrudes just a little but not enough to cause a hotspot. The blade itself is a very interesting design almost a wharncliffe or reverse tanto design. It does not have any type of guard but there is a choil so I suppose it could be used tactically as well but is also a good food prep or camper knife. My only concern with handling the knife is because there is no guard the sharpened edge goes right to the back of the blade and there is no sharpening notch so that blade goes right up against The side of your index finger if you choke up. So just be careful with that. My second issue is the carry options are kind of slim The kydex sheath is very well made and the retention is very good and there's almost no rattle so it's fitted properly. However there's no belt clip included and the eyelets are not spaced properly for a tech lock clip or other type of clip. I had to drill my own hole in order to get my mini clip to fit properly but it only works in a horizontal scout carry. Vertically the handle protrudes too far above the belt line to be a comfortable draw. I suppose I could do an angled installation of the clip but scout is okay. Knife is very light very sharp and appears to be very durable. Did have to slightly tighten a couple of the screws on the scales as they were only finger tight. Like this so much I bought both the brushed and the black finish.

Questionable Steel
Item came in crushed box. I bought it to use in the kitchen. It is not a tactical knife. Sheath is cheaper than most. No belt clip. The handle is glued and screwed G10 with a bit of texture. It is a bit thick for slicing. Came shaving sharp, but not after cubing a boneless roast. It's a descent design, but not great at any one thing, especially if it won't hold an edge, like most Chinese steels. Still may return. Hope this helps.

Camping/ kitchen hybrid
Nice hybrid between a Japanese honesuke and a camp knife. For sure, more “kitchen” than “camp”. The blade stock is considerably thicker than anything you’d find in a typical kitchen knife. Functions pretty good for breaking down poultry. The steel (AR-RPM9) is pretty awesome when it comes to edge retention and ease of sharpening. It strops back to sharp in a flash. I’d like to see more kitchen knives in this steel! Balance is pretty good as well! There is a very slight recurve, which I had to manually grind down. Outside of that, it’d be a 5 star for sure. Cheers, hope this helps someone.

Handy in the kitchen
Update:After five weeks of use I’ve gone back to my Santoku knife. The handle on the Silax is uncomfortably small for me. The Santoku provides a more secure grip for my large hands. This knife is good for fruits and vegetables the size of an apple or smaller. Slices cheese well too. I like this knife for making precision cuts. It’s lighter and more nimble than a Santoku. The balance point is at the finger choil. I have large hands and the handle is long enough for me. But it’s thin, my fingers wrap around it and into my palm. There is a bit of recurve in the edge near the tip. It should sharpen out easily on diamond stones. After a week of daily use in the kitchen the factory edge is holding up well. I’m happy with it overall.

Cool looking utility / kitchen / EDC fixed blade knife
The knife arrived earlier than expected and was packaged well. The cutting edge was pretty sharp right ootb. After a few strokes on a horsehide strop it was slicing cheap magazine paper cleanly. Used it to cut an orange into supreme slices. Did that well. Handle is smooth and comfortable. Cool looking utility/kitchen knife that could double as a fixed blade EDC.
