It's stylish, it's plastic, it can read and write your slowly antiquated media.
An external DVDRW drive is really not a glamorous type of purchase. This little device is a stylish take on the ever so boring and vanishing genre of removable/writeable disc media. Recently, I upgraded my computer case to the Corsiar 570x. A beautiful and completely out of my norm type of case purchase. I found it fun and interesting. However, this review is about the DVDRW drive, not my case, but what I was trying to get at was that the case no longer supports 5.25" drive bays. Thus making an external DVDRW drive the only truly viable way for me to write any media... SHOULD I ever have the need to.Enter, the Mougerk USB 3.0 DVDRW external drive. It's stylish, it has a built in USB 3.0 cable with a little mount underneath so you can safely secure the cable. I plugged it in to a Windows 10 system and it picked it up right away and I tested reading some media, mostly because I'd have to dig up where my writeable media ran off to. It picked up the media just fine and worked well. They did give it a brushed metal look. However, don't let those streaks fool you, it's plastic all around.

Compatibility with Windows 10?
I found the reviews on this to be misleading, this may work easily on other Windows 10 laptops but on mine I had a lot of trouble (after hours, I did figure out how to make this work, so skip to the end if you want to find out). It worked easily on my Mac, but when I tried to use it on my Windows (Dell XPS 15) laptop it would always give me an error message saying that I didn't have a media player (but I had both WMP and the Movies & TV app and both at different times I set to run when videos and DVDs were connected). I followed the very broad and confusing instructions included and then on my own went into all of the program settings, did research, tried to sync it... none of which worked. Honestly I don't think this is the DVD player's fault, it's Window's fault, but it shouldn't claim to work on all Windows 10 devices when it doesn't. Despite all this, I did enough research to find a good replacement media player as a last resort, called Kodi (free and safe to download online)... this ended up working perfectly and immediately played my DVD. In the end, this player works fine, but Windows 10 doesn't.

Great value - easily portable and works as expected
Good player with a very good price. Does what it claims to do. Short cord is attached and can be "hidden" inside the bottom of the player so it's very portable and you won't lose the cord. The box says "DVD-RW" but it does read DVD+R discs that I have burned before. I have not tested DVD burning because I will no longer store anything on optical media. I am only using this machine to transfer all my previously archived data plus old DVD movies onto my hard drive. Optical media is obsolete and my new laptop doesn't even come w/ one.The seller sent me an email with detailed instructions on how to make it work (such as plug it directly to the computer rather than via an USB hub). On my windows 10 machine it's completely plug and play. No need to install driver or anything. I have no trouble with this player opening all the discs i have tried except one bad disc that can't be played previously on any DVD player whatsoever.

Very nice, but questionable cable management
Works very well the unit was recognized by the BIOS. I was able to boot from it and install Windows 10 no problem. The cord storage is a neat idea, but when the cord is taken out to hook it up it requires a pretty severe amount of bending in order to have the unit lay flat. I over time this would couse the cable to fatigue and break internally. One star off for poorcable strain relief. The will not be an issue for me as I rarely use an optical drive any more, but would be a concern for heavy users.

It’s good
This worked perfect for what I needed. Gave 4 stars because it’s a little hard to open and close. It gets stuck, and almost makes you feel like you won’t be able to get disk out. But still did it’s job.

Good product
Good product. Seems well made and durable. I wish the cord was about 6 inches longer though. I use a 2-in-1 laptop that's usually in "tent mode" so the usb port on my laptop is about a foot above the surface so I can't lay this DVD drive flat on the surface when it's plugged it.

doesn't read DVD properly,
Seems to work for copying CD into your hard drive library, but failed to load DVD main menu (e.g. ISBN 0940871645) and failed to read another DVD entirely, hanging with a repeated disc rotation noise (e.g. Catholic Answers' "Why Be Catholic?"). Both discs worked in an older laptop's internal DVD drive indicating the failure is this Mougerk product. The USB-C to USB-A adapter seems to work well for some items (e.g. mouse, this drive) but not others (e.g. webcam).

Very good!
Reposting -apparently my review does not meet guidelines, however, it is a positive comment:I bought it for my dad since his new laptop doesn't have the DVD/CD drive. He tested it right away and installed an old software, it worked great! His laptop is an HP Pavilion x360 Windows 10.
