Great Workmanship, Missing the Whimsy
I've had a Tilley hat for fourteen years, worn it all over seven countries, and it's never let me down. I run it through the wash, and it still comes out looking brand-new. That said, my faithful 2005 Tilley hat is brown, and doesn't match much of my wardrobe. So I bought a black one, and now I swap 'em out, as needed. The new one arrived with the same excellent workmanship and attention to detail as my old one. But there was something missing in the new one—the tag stitched on the underside of my old one, visible only when the hat is off, was written with a sense of humor, proclaiming among other things that the hat was "Handmade with Canadian Persnicketiness." As a Canadian myself, I would agree that's one of our national virtues. The new one had no such good humor on its tag. It was all business, fully forgettable. (I wear the hat most days, and I've already forgotten what's there, besides a small Canadian flag.)Also, within the hidden pocket in the crown of my 2005 hat was a tiny plastic bag with a perforated sheet of paper inside, folded into small rectangular cards, each with something clever about Tilley hats, made for sharing with someone when you got a comment from a passerby. And the company was wise to include them—I DID get comments and questions about my hat, often enough that I long ago tore off and gave away ALL the little cards that came in that little baggie hidden away inside the crown. These good-humored little cards turned me into an evangelist for Tilley hats, and folks were delighted when I would hand them one—it was like a little magic trick, that related to our conversation. I don't know if I ever sold a hat for them, but I do know the experience added some dash and sparkle to my interactions around the hat. The new hat? No witty perforated cards, no little baggie. What they did, however, was to stick a little BROWN exterior tag on the back of my new BLACK hat. I think it had the company name, maybe a little hat icon. I'm not Minnie Pearl, so I cut it off right away. After all my kvetching, the Tilley is still an excellent hat, and I expect to get well over a decade of good use out of my new black one, as I have with my old brown one. The design is good, the materials comfortable, and it's all stitched together well. What's missing is the sense of humor—the fun. It's as if the good-natured folks that were running the business retired, and the new generation who took over are just counting the cents it cost them to stitch that funny tag inside, or print and fold those clever little giveaway cards. Instead, they stuck a tiny brown tag on the outside (of a black hat) because it was cheaper, and the marketing department told them it was good branding. I submit to you that the air of whimsy which surrounded the 2005 hat, THAT was good branding, and it was worth the extra pennies. The new hat is just as practical, but as a traveling companion, it has less personality. Whenever I glance at the hidden tag on the underside while hanging up my old Tilley hat, it gives me a smile. The new Tilley hat has lost its lightness of heart, and for me, that's why they've lost that fifth star.

The hat I've been looking for
I had some fairly strict requirements for a hat. Health issues have forced me to start walking several times daily but as I'm prone to skin cancer, I needed a good hat. Had to be comfortable. Had to be light. Had to allow for airflow. This hat is all of those things. What set this one aside for me and justified the higher price was three things: wide variety of sizes, lifetime warranty and it's black."Large" doesn't quite fit me right (and varies from hat to hat anyway) but Tilley's 7 3/8 does. The warranty is excellent. And I wanted something that looked good anywhere, not just on the trail or on a boat. I tend to wear dark colors and just didn't want a tan or green hat. The LTM6 is the most comfortable one I've tried and I think it looks good enough that from now on if you see me out anywhere, I'll be wearing it.

My Tilly hats keep getting better
This is my fourth Tilly hat. Left the first one on a plane. Second one was the version with only two holes for ventilation. It was also made from heavier fabric so a little warm, but its still my go to rain hat. Great if you don't want to carry an umbrella. The next was an olive freen air-flow that I used for gardening. Too much sweat and too little cleaning turned this one a bit too grungy for anything but gardening. So now I have the newest model, the airflow black that I am wearing when I don't want to look like I just stumbled out of a four month Amazon expedition. They are all great hats, each for a different use. And SPF 50 as well. If you only want to need one don't leave it on a plane and wash regularly.

Best outdoor hat
I know you may be thinking the price of this hat seems high, but as this was my second purchase of this type of hat I can say the quality is well worth the price. There are many other brands that offer similar hats and I have owned many of the and they just don't stand up to this. The others fade, seat marks abound, they lose their shape. The Tilley is extremely resistant to sweat marks, always holds its shape, extremely comfortable and great looking. I would highly recommend this product. I have had my other hat for 3 years now and it is pretty much in the same condition as when I bought it and I wear it all the time when I kayak and fish. Do be sure to go through the exercise of measuring your head if you do not know your hat size. You will be glad you did. It is another great feature about this brand of product as it has actual sizes not small, medium, large.

I like this hat a lot.
This is a great looking and fitting hat. I did expect the brim to be a tad more sturdy in the wind but all in all I would recommend theTilley LTM6 Airflo Hat - Black to friends and family looking for a nice sun/rain hat.I am a Security Officer for a Country Club and Golf Course and this hat really goes well with our dark navy blue uniforms.I've received nothing but compliments from friends, family, coworkers and club members.Thank you.

The perfect hat for playing or working!
I wish I had known of the Tilley hats years ago. This hat is super comfortable and using their sizing chart it fits perfectly. Being someone that now uses expensive hearing aids, the wide brim plays a bigger role of keeping rain off my ears. I've been wearing it golfing, working outside, driving in the convertible and this hat stays nicely on my head. I also enjoy not having to put sunscreen all over my ears like I did with the ball caps. Now you add in the reduced cost if you loose it within 2 years and the lifetime guarantee, made the purchase PHENOMENAL! This hat impressed me so much, I have already added another selection to my wish list.

What else can I say, Tilley is the BEST...
I'm 62 years old and had Tilley hats for over 30 years. Love their quality, easy to wash when needed. The ONLY thing I Do NOT Like, is that now most of them are made in China, ARGH. Ticks me off, Tilley comes from Canada, and Should be Made in Canada like they used to be. I'm Sick that Everbody is Outsourcing to China. BUT, I bought 1 anyway. I had some sizing issues, my Normal size was Too Small. Sizing might be lost in the translation in outsourcing

Tilley hats are great
I love Tilley hats. They look good, sit comfortably on my head, secure in breezy conditions. I was very pleased to find a black version to add to my collection.
