Rottweilers For Dummies

Well written and a great resource for training and raising Rotties.

I already have a Rottweiler, but I love all books related to them as they are my favorite breed. This book is full of very important information. I am no expert, but I have had and worked with Rottweilers for most of my life (I am a Vererinary Assistant). This book is an excellent read for someone thinking about getting a Rottie. It first and foremost talks about those people who SHOULD NOT own a Rottie! And those are people who want one to look tough or to be a guard dog! Rotties make amazing family pets and wonderful best friends when raised properly and with a knowledgable person. Anyone who is even entertaining the idea of getting a Rottie should buy this and read it throughly. On a side note, my current Rottie, Zoe, is a rescue and is a great dog who just needed lots of love and positive reinforcement to become the happy and wonderful dog that she is. I don't mean to preach, but never get a dog for any reason other than the need to love that dog and provide them with a loving home. And NEVER get a Rottie just because you think they look tough and will make you look cool. They are an extremely intelligent and stubborn breed that needs an experienced owner who not only can provide the proper excercise and socialization needed, but who is willing to put in a lot of dedication into helping your Rottie be well behaved and an awesome family member. And I am talking about POSITIVE reinforcement, NOT brutality. If you are certain that this is the breed for you, then you are about to have a companion that will be at your side and love you like nothing else. They are an extremely rewarding breed. Ok, I'm done preaching now, haha! But, seriously, this is a really great and clear book.

I liked that it goes into more detail about Rottweilers than other, shorter books about the same subject. It provides more examples to make a point, which helps the reader understand things more easily. I’d recommend reading this book.

Now I know I will be ready for my life's companion when I get my first Rottie this summer. This book didn't leave me with any questions nor did it fail to enable me to chart out a great training plan for my future pup. Additionally I know where to go with any issues that might pop up when I encounter the inevitable obstacles when training the pup.

Really great book to learn all about rottweilers. We have 2 rotties and this book really helped quite a bit, but, while it tells you what you need to do to have a great relationship with your rotty, it doesn't tell you how to do it. There are no specific instructions on how to train them and that's a big factor since rotties are a far different breed to train than all other dogs. If you're looking for a great book to help you understand rotties, this is the book for you, but if you are looking for instruction on how to train your rotty, this wont help at all.Pros:► Has a LOT of great information to help you understand the rottweiler breed.Cons:► Doesn't teach you anything on how to train a rottweiler at all and seeing as rottweilers must be trained in a completely different way than all other breeds, having this information included in the book is really needed. If you train your rotty the wrong way, it can be catastrophic.

I really enjoyed this book! The author is an experienced professional. He spoke on every subject I had a question on, and added a lot that I had not thought about! I recommend this book!

Like all the other Dummies books I've read, this is a great resource for anyone interested in the topic. Rottweiler are not for everyone, and this book makes it clear that the prospective owner needs to be prepared to be in charge. A thorough discussion of the breed, I would recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely great advise and details on Rotties. I love how this book is writen and the no nonsence approach the author uses. He tells it like it is and informs you as to weather you are fit to own a Rottie or not.

Love it full of useful information

I got a new, primarily Rottweiler, puppy and needed guidance on every level for getting to know this breed and training her. This book, like most "Dummies" books, is quite thorough, easy to read and well done. There is not quite enough info on a few behavioural issues, but that is available on line. Overall, it's an excellent book for beginners like me who find themselves with a very strong, smart and active puppy ! I highly recommend it for every new Rottie owner.

Great read with many useful tips on everything. I feel well prepared for the arrival of our puppy now.

This should be a mandatory book for Rotty owners to read, especially with new Rotty puppies. I'm 52 and a dog lover but had no idea how different Rotties are. We are training our puppy with this book and she is also going to be a service dog for my hearing so training is critical. Thank you so much from our whole family. She's only 7 weeks but doing amazing already
