Player would not playback some commercially made movie DVDs. Others played fine. Tablet PCs (Surface Pro 4) does not provide enough power through USB 3 port, although other models I purchased to replace this, does work, which leads me to suspect in may not be taking fulladvanatge of USB 3 power/data provided. Will only burn when linked to a powered USB, so for Surface Pro, means using a port replicator docking unit. I returned it and bought this unit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W5DDN4W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which has two USB cables, data/power which works by itself, and a separate USB power line which I did not need - this repalcement reads and USB port.burns using the Surface Pro

Great Drive Fast Read and Write Speeds
Are you looking for a nice external DVD drive for your computer? If you are then this might be the one for you! I’ve been using this drive for about a week now and haven’t had any problems with it. This drive will also allow you to burn any type of DVD’s so you don’t have to worry about that. When burning disks, it’s fast because of the USB 3.0 Speed. But you do have to remember to plug it in to a 3.0 port or else you won’t get that amount of speed. I’ve used this drive in both Windows and OS X and it works perfectly with both. Overall this is a great drive to buy if you need an external drive. I would recommend this drive to anyone!

Easy Plug & Play
UPDATED 3/24/18 (2 stars)I've had this thing just over 9 months, and I've maybe used it a dozen times. I just stopped working halfway through a CD import into iTunes. Sounds like it's crunching and/or scraping the CD and it isn't spinning level. The quality of the import leading up to the failure is bad too. I'll be reaching out to customer service and will update again.Previous Review (5 stars)This has worked flawlessly for me so far on my 2016 Macbook Pro. Just plug it in and it can rip and burn CDs no problem. haven't checked out the DVD features yet, but I'm assuming there would be no issue there either. I like the compact, easy-to-fold and hide cord/storage for when I don't need it (most of the time).

It works, It ain't pretty, but it works. It is good exercise.
It works satisfactorily. The plastic cover face [where you push the eject button] is loose and pushing it back into it's molding hole is tiresome but I have just about gotten used to it. Might remove it since is is almost falling off. Hey, the exercise is cheap. It reminds me of the movie "Taking Earth," a sci-fy flick with so much of an almost "great title", so much potential for an almost great plot, and some almost great effects, and the entire thing ends up as an almost good deal spoiled only by having to watch the whole production so that if you net-flix rated it a zero stars that would be too much. Promising everything, a promise destroyed by its production. This amazon device is far better than that. The cover just almost falls off every time you load or eject, but only one end. So it is an exercise. If you get one that stays together good post a better review!

JUNK.....didn't work out if box
They don't have a zero star. Pierce of junk. It kept stopping and loosing connection with PC. This unit has a USB cable that is hard wired to the driver so I'm assuming it had a bad connection. The cable is also too short. DO NOT WASTE your money on this junk. Purchased one at Best Buy and it worked great. Same cost as this junker here

Portable DVD player
I bought this because my new laptop does not have a cd rom drive anymore... go figure. This works just fine. After figuring out that MS does not have video playing programs, I found some good tips from other reviewers. Works like a charm!

cord too short
It works and it is fast enough but the cable is way too short. The problem is that the computer manufacturers put the USB3 connectors on the rear of the chassis where no one can get to them. It gets even worse for a laptop with a docking station.
