Magnets *may* be reversed...
So...as others mentioned, great value versus dealer pricing ($20 vs probably $150)....after fiddling with it for way to long today, as many others alluded to it *seems* not to work with the shift lights or tiptronic right off the bat. What I discovered was the magnets (which control the shift light & tiptronic) in the aftermarket were installed upside down - hence why they wouldn't work right away. I flipped them over and they were good to go - my advice would be to check the polarity of the magnets in this once you receive it versus the polarity/orientation of the magnets in the factory part you're replacing - would save a lot of time & headaches!

THERE WAS GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS
I received the gear lever strip as expected. The strip appeared fine and I installed it. I was unable to get it to display the gear selection on the dash as a previous reviewer had mentioned. I took it back apart and compared the new one to the old one (now in several pieces) and noticed the magnets had a different profile which did not allow for the correct operation. I was able to swap out the magnet on the slide that enables going into the manual shifting mode and got the gear level strip to operate correctly. Fortunately the old slide was in good shape and I was able to swap it. The manufacturer needs to address that issue. A good alternative...with some alterations...to the couple of hundred dollars the Audi dealer wanted for the factory part.

The part did not work
The fitment seemed fine, but I'm assuming the magnets were not powerful enough, because the dash was not displaying which gear the car was in. This meant no tiptronic or manual shifting. Put the old, broken part back in, and it worked fine.Likely a faulty part from China, but I guess that matches with the price.
