The Rough Guide to Slovenia Paperback – April 19, 2010

We like to travel off the beaten path, and the Rough Guides certainly provide a good starting point. The Rough Guide to Slovenia is VERY helpful with information on language pronunciation, restaurants, and activities, with options from inexpensive to high-end. Not knowing anything about Slovenia, it gave us good ideas on which areas to read up about and explore further. I can recommend the book.

I bought the Rough Guide because at the time I needed it, it was the most up-to-date, comprehensive guide to Slovenia that I could find in English. It's not as good as Lonely Planet, the series I usually turn to.

I have used many different travel guide books. This is the first time I have purchased a "Rough Guide." It will be the last. First, the density of the black ink is much "thinner" than other guide books. I have difficulty reading it even with my reading glasses. Second, the use of bolding and setting information off in different blocks for ease of use and consulting are completely inadequate. I cannot even imagine using this book while traveling. I'd be wasting a lot of time just trying to read it. I will not be taking this book with me on my trip to Slovenia, but will purchase an alternative guide to use.

I wish I knew about Rough Guides sooner! I've used almost every other major guidebook brand, but now that I've used Rough Guides, I don't imagine I will ever use anything else. In my opinion, it far exceeds other brands in terms of the detail and breadth of the content, including the practical--hotels, restaurants, activities, language etc. and perhaps less practical but to me just as important, historical information. This is a very dense and useful guidebook.
