Do NOT use a drill to install!
I bought the Pelican 1514 case a bit over a year ago, but put off buying this lid organizer until now, because of the negative reviews. Due to changes in my equipment, I found that I could really use this organizer, so I decided to take the plunge. I'm so glad I did! I can fit a lot more items in my case now, and it all stays nicely organized. A fair number of reviewers have said that they had to drill pilot holes for the screws before they could install this product. I think this is VERY bad advice! If you make a mistake and drill too deeply, you will break through the outer shell of the case. Having one or more small holes in the lid of the case is going to greatly reduce the moisture and dust protection the case provides, which is probably one of the reasons you bought this case in the first place! Don't take a chance of ruining your case with a drill, because you don't need one anyway! Simply use an awl to make the existing screw-indents a bit larger and deeper. Then screw the screws in WITHOUT the organizer. Then take the screws out, and put the organizer in place. Now you can easily put the screws back in. Some reviewers have complained that it's too hard to screw the screws in through the netting. I imagine this would be true if you were using the wrong size Phillips head screwdriver. I used a Number 1 size, and it worked just fine. Use a larger size, and you might have the same problem as the others. So, in summary, to install this organizer, all you need is an awl and a small Phillips head screwdriver ... that's it. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes to complete the task. I love this organizer and think it is a wonderful addition to my case ... I don't know how I went a year without it. I'm sorry that the negative reviews kept me from getting it sooner. Other reviewers point out that by taking the thick foam out of the lid and replacing it with this organizer, your camera equipment is less protected. While this is true, you have to consider what your case will be subjected to. I don't take my case any places where this lessened protection will be an issue. For my needs, I'm very happy to have somewhat less protection in exchange for a significant amount of extra storage space. For those who will have their cases subjected to much violence or pressure or abuse, you might want to keep the foam in the lid rather than this organizer. As I mentioned before, it all depends on what your needs are. As for me, I have absolutely no regrets.

Great with the Pelican 1510 Case, BETTER with the Pelican 1510 LOC Laptop Case!
I am very glad that I purchased this at the same time as the Pelican 1510 LOC Laptop Case which already comes with a laptop sleeve and zippered bag for PC Power block, cable and miscellaneous small items. Oddly enough, the Pelican Laptop sleeve and bag are NOT offered as a separate accessory. If you have not yet decided on which 1510 case, compare the 'standard' and the 1510 LOC case before you buy and after reading this and other user reviews. URL, 1510 LOC Case: http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-Products-1510-007-110-1510LOC-Dividers/dp/B00843NRE6?ie=UTF8&keywords=Pelican%201510%20LOC%20case&qid=1459545096&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3 The webbed pockets of the 1519 Lid Organizer are large enough for a variety of photo related items including small (paper) notebooks, pens, etc. When 'full' with my necessary photo items, these pockets are still within the lid area allowing me to include my 13" 2 in 1 Laptop in its sleeve along with the bag for PC accessories. Even with my sleeved PC inside the Pelican 1510's PC sleeve, the lid closes securely as intended. You can permanently attach the 1519 Organizer with the screws provided OR (if you have purchased the 1510 LOC) use 2 inch wide self-adhesive Velcro and swap out the 1519 Organizer with the laptop sleeve and PC accessory bag when you want. In the case of the Pelican 1510 LOC, there is already a plastic backer sheet (similar to the rear of the 1519 Organizer) screwed into place with Velcro affixed -all that is required is to attach 2 inch wide self-adhesive Velcro to the back of the Organizer to match that of the 1510 LOC and there is no longer need to screw and unscrew units when swapping them out. You have the best of both world and BOTH photo gear AND laptop can stow in the overhead compartment! No worries! In my opinion, this product is the perfect option for your Pelican case-especially if you have already purchased the 1510 LOC and want an additional and convenient storage option.

Nice alternative to more expensive options. Works in an Apache 5800 case perfectly.
About as nice as you're going to get for the price. Mesh doesn't feel the most durable, but most alternatives cost several times more. Nice plastic backing screws straight into the lid with supplied hardware. This fits perfectly in an Apache 5800 case from Harbor Freight.

Same as on the picture, not that hard to install, useful.
First, the item I received corresponds to the picture on the Amazon page as of this writing; five mesh pockets, four of which are horizontal on the left and a long vertical one on the right. The lid organizer itself is not just fabric and mesh - the pockets are attached on some kind of rigid plastic sheet to be screwed down in six pre-determined places where the case lid has raised plastic stubs obviously designed to provide the thickness required to accommodate the screws. This means that this thickness is lost volume: the lid organizer sheet is raised by that amount (maybe 3/16"), thus slightly decreasing the available inner space, but also providing some elasticity. This is welcome as obviously the lid organizer replaces the foam that came with the case. The craftsmanship is excellent as I came to expect from Pelican. After reading some other reviews, I was gearing up for an epic installation but it turned out to be not that hard. The pre-drilled holes in the case cover, if any, are clearly insufficient, so I just used a screwdriver and installed the screws to half-depth in the right place first, without the lid organizer. Then I removed them, placed the lid organizer and put the screws back, this time all the way. Total: 10 minutes including fetching the tools - and putting them back (this last part for my wife). Some reviewers suggested that installing the bottom left screw first would allow the installer to fold the lid organizer so as to access the hole - not so for me. The rigid plastic sheet on the back prevents folding. On the other hand I didn't have much of a problem with the installation. I suspect this confusion comes from the at least two versions of the lid organizer that various reviewers have been installing. Usage This is really a tradeoff: good shock-absorption on the lid side, vs. actually using that volume which is quite big. I opted for the latter to store there a number of small items I would otherwise be chasing around the case: lenspen, color-checker, wireless remote triggers, cold shoes, etc. Still I have a portion of the original foam in the vertical pocket to protect the main camera body and one lens. Will the mesh and zipper hold with time? No way to say yet. I will update this review when I know. All in all it works for me and I would buy it again.

Great product add-on well worth the money!
I know others had some issue with installation but to me it was easy to install, my trick was to use a cordless drill with phillips attachment outside the mesh and fish the screw onto the bit and hold with two fingers inside of the mesh bag and line up the screw with the pre-indexed hole on the backing. I think the biggest problem people had with installation was that they probably tried doing this with a screwdriver instead of a drill gun. The drill provides steadier pressure at a higher speed which allows the screw to bite at a given angle instead of constantly wobbling and creating an oblong hole which will be less secure. That being said when installed properly this product is amazing! I love the added pockets you gain from this and it makes excellent use of the head space of the lid which otherwise would be wasted for me. I keep all my consumable items i.e. disposable gloves, brushes, q-tips, zip tye's, spare batteries, scotch-brite, tags, bags, etc. in here so that it's all neatly organized and I can pull what I need without disturbing the rest. One small issue is the zippers could be better. Because of the shape of the mesh bag when you pull the zippers the bag deforms causing the zipper to bind. When full this isn't as much of an issue but there is no one-handed unzipping/zipping because of this. Not a big issue though so it doesn't affect my scoring.

Great addition for my Pelican camera case.
I bought this lid organizer to replace the push-in foam that comes in the lid of the Pelican model 1510-004-110 (which is the case that is sized to be allowed as a carry on bag on about 95% of all airlines.) This organizer is secured by screwing it into preformed molded posts in the underside of the lid. It comes with the screws and flat washers. CONS: It is very difficult to install the lower screws because you would have to push the screwdriver shaft through the small holes of the nylon netting, and you could damage it in doing so. My Solution: The screws provided are a combination small Philips head and #1 square drive. I used my Milwaukee cordless driver and the square drive bit (It's the small bit) to fit though the small netting without damaging it. A single square drive bit is less than $5 and if you don't own a cordless/corded driver, then you can buy a square drive screwdriver which will work just as well. PROS: Well made (as is all of the Pelican line). When I was in law enforcement we used Pelican brand cases to carry our equipment. They are just about indestructible. This lid organizer really increases storage. I could put in all my extra camera batteries (I carry two DSLR bodies with four Canon batteries), lithium batteries for my flashes, extra cords, battery chargers (AC/DC car adapter), booklets and more. Just take your time installing the organizer. Remember, you only have to do it once!

Case is Great, Amazon not so much.
This case did NOT come with the lid organizer, as pictured in Amazons ad. However, the padded dividers DO have a padded bottom, one earlier reviewer, recieved his/hers without a padded bottom. The case works great for my use. I have two Nikon D300 with lens attaced to each, a 18-200mm and a 70-200mm with tx20 attached in this case. Along with all of the other much of my other gear, filters,batteries,snoot,50mm lens, two sb speed lights and other various odds and ends. The case is well built and very much fit for its use. I am very happy with the case. I am not happy wiht Amazon for not including the lid organizer and for not having a way to let them know how unhappy I am with them on this item and for the very long two day delivery that took seven days. They did assure me however that the delay was unavoidable!! All error are avoidable. I did not rate the product lower due to this, I rated the product on the product only, not fair to rate product on sellers short comings. This was the first time after years of buying from Amazon, that I was unhappy wiht them. Yes, I spent the money for the lid organizer, that is where the filters and other small items are stored.

Functional- Gets The Job Done
While Pelican cases cannot be beat for top notch construction and durability... This "lid organizer" falls far from the "benchmark of quality" set by Pelican. The lid organizer is "Heche en Chine"- at least it doesn't cost much! At the end of the day, it (so far) does what it's supposed to do- organize miscellaneous stuff that would otherwise be floating about (IE: getting lost, creating a nuisance, etc) down in the case body. The screws that come with the thing are TINY... FYI it does screw into the case lid. At some point, if one or all fail, I'll beef em up a bit... One other note of interest- by the time you jam your various bits & bobs into the lid organizer, you lose a little storage space in the body of the pelican case. As long as whatever you put in the case stays at or below the case body (with the lid open) you'll be able to close the lid. Maybe it'd be better to get some zippered Klein bags to keep general stuff in? I dunno, probably 6 of one, half dozen of the other- but for now I'm rockin the less-than-impressive Pelican Lid Organizer.
