Easy, effective and economic
These are very simply designed to heat your pool from sunlight and keep the heat in at night, the perfect design for passive solar heat. Is a solar blanket more effective? I would say yes however, the solar blanket is cumbersome to take on and off. These rings can easily betaken out by one person and neatly stacked at poolside, taking up very little space on the pool deck. Putting them back in is also a breeze, just toss them in from pool side. WARNING...these are very easy to overinflate, and even blow out while inflating. They just need a little air in them to keep afloat on the outer ring, and the inner quilted section needs just enough air to separate the quilts from each other. Over inflating will cause them to not lay flat in the water, and you may run the risk of damaging the seem. The air level needs to be very low, almost like they are a flat tire. These were just what I was looking for to increase water temps without using the heater.

REVISED REVIEW - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS OR YOU WILL CAUSE THESE TO FAIL!
REVISED REVIEW: Oooops... I'll bet my problem (and most others here) is because of overinflation by me. READ THE ENCLOSED INSTRUCTIONS first... If you inflate these 100% to start with, they WILL fail. This is because when the sun heats the circles, the air inside expands and blows the seams. When properly inflated, they will look they don't have enough air. Look on page 9 of this brochure: [...]Original Review:These Solar Rings seem like a great idea, and would be --- if they were better made. They do heat the pool, as many reviews have said. But, of the ten I purchased, three are no good. When I first had trouble, I refilled them all, and taped the valves closed to make sure the leak wasn't there. The leak is somewhere else --- probably a seam. The photos tell the story. Be ready to be at least partly disappointed.

One-star product, five-star seller
Given the many warnings listed here regarding over-inflation, I was *very* careful to only do two breaths to inflate the center portion of the rings, and to only *just* inflate the outer ring. They looked exactly like the accompanying photos (no bubbling or pillow-top-like appearance, the two layers of vinyl were separated, and there was no warping at all). We have a large pool, so I purchased 20 of them. After 1 hour, two of them deflated ... one had just the center portion deflated, the other had both the center portion and the outside ring deflated. I submerged them in a shallow pool of water ... both had holes in them. After another day, two more deflated. This time, the entire unit was deflated on both rings. Again using a submersion test, both of them also had holes. Two days later, three more deflated. These also had holes. About 90% of the holes I found were right along the seams where the vinyls had been bonded. Given that the seams were very, very irregular (the thickness varied from 1/2 inch to completely non-existent), that wasn't surprising. And after all this, for the three days the rings were in the pool, the temperature of the water actually went down, even though the ambient air temperature was 15+ degrees warmer than the water and the pool was in full sun. Even if I did somehow over-inflate the rings despite my cautious attempt, why in the hell is a product made to be so temperamental and poorly constructed, *especially* considering the high price? I returned the entire lot this morning. I will say, however, that the seller (Products Supply Store) was very prompt with my return request (within a couple of hours), and will even reimburse me for shipping the product back to them. Great customer service, horrible product.

Small and useless
Considering that you probably want solar covers to heat your pool in the daytime and to keep the warmth you’ve garnered at night these rings didn’t make a whole lot of sense when I bought them. One has no way of knowing whether they work.

Works Great!!
These rings are amazing. Second time purchasing them. Saved me on my water bill, energy bill, and maintenance. They keep the heat in the pool and extends our swimming throughout the year! Need 11 for our pool bought 12 just in case.

Waste
Traps dirt in pool and interferes with cleaner.

I like how it still also allows the pool to breathe ...
Effective and more attractive than pool blanket especially for our oddly shaped pool. And much easier for one person to remove and then replace. I like how it still also allows the pool to breathe and surface water to circulate.

They do help
You have to be careful not to put too much air in them. I find they do help warm the water a few degrees and help slow evaporation. I just wish they weren’t so costly. I only have three due to cost

Geht so

Not effective
Unfortunately I didn't notice any difference in temperature increase when using the ring.
