The recommendation was to have 3 sets for the size of my pool, around 40k gallons. Absolutely not needed. After 1.5 months of running it on sunny days and using a polar cover, surface temp was 95f. After getting in the pool and mixing the water levels, it would even put to 85-89, sometimes 90-92. Made it into a hot tub. Some days I would run the panels at night to try to cool down the water. This is a good buy to warm your pool up and does a much better job than stated. Review: Started pumping out warm water while the truck was still filling it with very cold water. Greatly improved our swimming experience. Very happy and impressed. Minor issue with a small leak on the top of the bypass valve that I'm looking into. And the mats don't want to lay completely flat.(That's me being picky and also may be the installation) I do recommend this product as it does work and is a great price.

Got the two-pack with connection kit, and to be honest, it was quite a job to get it installed - probably spent 4 hours cutting, assembling, running to the hardware store for extra hoses and pipes for my setup, and installing on the roof. I wouldn't consider the setup to be perfect, but it does do what it's supposed to do - as long as there's DIRECT SUN on it. I know this seems obvious, but I had kind of hoped that there would be SOME benefit to running it even if there was some cloud coverage, but there IS NOT. On a nice sunny day, it probably raises the temperature of my 16' round 48" deep pool (about 4200 gallons) about 6 degrees over the course of 6 hours (from about 10:30am to 4:30pm). The Intex pool I use loses almost that much over the course of a 60 degree night, so I'm usually running the heater every day to maintain the temperature I want (we like 86-88 degrees if we have the choice). I live in a very temperate climate (usually high 50's/low 60s at night and mid 70's during the day) so your results may vary. I have had a couple instances of a few warm days in a row, and it definitely can get the pool pretty warm. I've turned the heater off when its gotten to 90 degrees a couple times. Anyway, I'm glad we purchased the system , and it definitely works a lot faster than the solar cover/heater we keep on the pool when its not in use (but I suspect using both is a good way to go!). Also you DON'T want to run this after sunset, or before sunrise, as it also make a great pool cooler. If the pool water is warmer than the ambient temperature and there isn't sun to warm the panels, you will feel colder water coming out of the return line.

I bought a total of 4 2x16' units and attempted to link them together with the provided hardware. It was next to impossible to do with out everything leaking. I went out and bought a ton of PVC and plumbed it in with different hardware. The water is really restricted going through all 4 panels and increases the pressure on the system to almost 30 psi. These kits are cheap and not really worth the price. If this lasts more than one season I'd be surprised.
