Superb Data, But with a Hitch
The venerable Jim Fuller is truly one of the most gifted experts and experienced technicians to pick up and work on the AK-47/74 combat long gun. His expertise is without question. And this video demonstrates this throughout.Mr. Fuller is detailed, humble, and explicit in explaining and showing all about what the lay-person can do to work on and responsibly modify this weapon system. He explains and shows, for example the difficulty of taking apart and especially putting back together the bolt of the AK design. He goes in to elaborate detail about the trigger group--taking it apart and putting it back together again with a specially designed, color-coded trigger group for contrast and easier comprehension of the process. He explains and shows what we can safely and responsibly do to this trigger group and what trigger group systems we can procure for the best and safe functioning of this weapon.Mr. Fuller does a fantastic job explaining and demonstrating many technical applications in managing and maintaining this weapon system I have not viewed else where. The kicker in this video is the camera man or whomever is directing the cameras. The camera would pan in for a close up on what Mr. Fuller was doing, and as Mr. Fuller was explaining his actions in detail, the dang camera would keep panning to Mr. Fuller's face and then back to the hands and back to the face. Fuller is just explaining what he is fluidly doing very clearly, and we as a viewer, we miss some of things Mr. Fuller is explaining as he is doing because the camera won't stay still on what Fuller is doing. The data explicated is so detailed, the camera needed to remain stationary on what Fuller was doing so we--the viewer--could really get the picture of what was being done. From here, then the camera only needed to move in and out from real close up to a wider view of the section of the weapon being worked. For goodness sakes, camera director, I know what the man looks like. He has my attention. His voice is clear and articulate and the audio is superb in this video. PLEASE keep the freaking camera focused on what he is doing and stop moving the camera about from face to hands.I had to stop frame or put the video on slow motion to fully capture what Mr. Fuller was doing. I keep yelling at the monitor: "Please hold the camera still, will you." My wife laughed and said, "You know they cannot hear you, right?!"I still need to give the video presentation five stars as what Mr. Fuller shares is well worth that. I can adapt and improvise to make the video work. I cannot let the camera man diminish what Mr. Fuller has offered. I do hope Panteao sees this review, and in the future, is aware of the importance of keeping cameras still and focused on detailed hand work, involving gunsmithing. We don't need to see anything but what the hands are doing--this isn't a shooting video.Over all, the video is information rich very well done except the camera direction.A. Bodhi Chenevey

Great DVD!
For those who don't know, Jim Fuller is an incredible AK gunsmith & rebuild owner who puts on one of the best (if not the best) AK variants out there through his business, Rifle Dynamics. Top notch stuff. He used to also be an instructor through Suarez International, if I'm not mistaken, so he's a shooter too.Back to the DVD. I've never attempted to customize an AK before because I've never held one before but got it once my AK 74 arrived. Wanted to learn both the internals & external functions as well as I could because we should be experts in how a particular weapon system works whether it's a pistol, shotgun, rilfe or knife. Jim was quite articulate and lively throughout the DVD. Not only did it go beyond field stripping, but also gave good insights on what to watch for when pulling out the fire control group, how to replace parts throughout the weapon, while also pointing out certain "gotchas" to be observant of.Lastly, Jim actually kept things interesting. Looks like he put in the time to rehearse each section well rather than slapping something together which eats me up sometimes. But he didn't put me to sleep either which I was worried would happen. Great DVD.

Straight from quite possibly the greatest AK guru at the time
To put it simply, any AK owner will have a solid understanding of their rifle after following along with this DVD. It's obviously impossible to say everything there is to say about a 70 year old rifle in a few hours, but Mr. Fuller goes over the best/most important material that can fit in that timeframe. This knowledge is definitely worth $50.

the music sounds like it's straight from Miami Vice
Jim Fuller is one of America's premier experts on the AK47 platform. If you cannot attend one of his training sessions, this DVD can help with most or your AK gunsmithing needs.Yes, the music sounds like it's straight from Miami Vice, but the content is first-rate.
