The TL-WPA4220 KIT allows you to expand your home's Ethernet connectivity using the existing electrical wiring within your walls, while also providing Wi-Fi signal broadcast at the Powerline Wi-Fi Adapter (TL-WPA4220) location. Simply plug the TL-PA4010 (smaller unit) into a wall outlet near your router and connect it to the router via Ethernet, then plug the TL-WPA4220 unit into a wall outlet at the desired location. Q: My router (TL-WDR3600) is dual band (2.4 and 5.0 GHz). Can this extender put out 5.0 as well as 2.4 ?

I received the TL-WPA7510 KIT today, and the back of the product box itself indicates it supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz. "Fast Dual Band Wi-Fi for Every Need in Every Room. 300Mbps (2.4GHz) is ideal for browsing the web and video chatting, while 433 Mbps (5GHz) is perfect for HD streaming and lag-free gaming." So it may depend on which model TP-Link unit you purchased.

Q: What is the difference between the starter kit and the add-on extender kit? How do I know which one to buy? Thanks.

This powerline system needs two devices. The base station "adapter" that connects to your modem/router and a "extender" to put anywhere in your house. Unless your house is huge (5+ bedrooms), you would only need 1 maybe two "extenders". The kit is both pieces. The extender provides a 2nd extender if one wasnt enough. The extender broadcasts wifi and has 2 Cat 5 ports, so one should be enough if you already have a wifi modem/router somewhere else in your house.

Q: If I have my modem directly plugged into one of the TL-PA4010, will this device create a new wifi network?

No, this device (TL-PA4010) does not have WAN port, the rj45 port is LAN port.You must first have a router connected to the modem.Then connect the 4010 to the electrical outlet close to the router.Then connect the 4020 to the electrical outlet (e.g. , another room of the house) or where you prefer.The 4020 mirrors the router, and allows you to extend the network. wireless network and connect 2 devices by their rj45. atte EAS
