A product that does not work at all...don't buy!
I was excited to see a product like this on the market but what a disappointment. I don't understand how company can release a product like this that doesn't even work. Just so you know my technical skill...I'm working in IT field for over 20 years so installing something like this is very easy for me. I have to say the installation is easy and straight forward, no problem there. But here are the problems...1. While watching the TV from it the unit keep on buffering and screen pauses every few seconds. This happens on all devices, Ipad, Iphone, PC computer (Wired), Imac (wireless) and Nexus 7.2. This unit's main software crashes or locked up constantly when you access it from the computer (both mac and PC).3. On the PC and Mac, seems like only Chrome kind of works. IE and Safari could not even get to the setup....what a joke!4. The Simple.TV apps on IOS and Android freeze-up almost every time when you select Live TV. And it doesn't even let you select channels.5. The volume on this is so low even I turn the volume all the way up.6. Even if this product works I don't think it will last very long. There is fan that is not only loud but you can tell they use cheap fan. The fan produce this high pitch plastic grinding noise (imaging this thing is in your living room or bedroom). The unit does get warm and when the fan goes out the unit will over get heated....May burn down your house!7. Also paying $56/yr for a TV guide is insane.....The unit does not list channels on IOS and Android so you can only relay on your TV guide. The only thing I'm glad is I bought it from Amazon so I can return it almost painless.

Picture quality and fan noise issues
For those expecting a HD picture to your big screen TV, well, it's not there yet. Functionally, this product works great. The menu systems, programming guide, recording capability, and the Simple TV channel for Roku all work extremely well. However, when it comes to streaming live TV or recordings to my 50" Samsung, the picture is anything but HD. It's more like TV before HD which means it was irritating to watch. Streamed to my PC and 20" monitor is was fine, but anything bigger, SimpleTV hasn't quite figured out how to effectively stream HD on your local network (this should be a "no brainier"). So if your hoping to watch on a PC monitor, it's fine. But if you're hoping to have HD to your big screen through Roku, better to waiting until they figure out HD streaming on a local network. Here's the technical details of my setup:1. Roku 3 (Jan 2014)2 Simple TV Dual Channel unit (Jan 2014)3 Router is Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 (Nov 2013 with 50MB internet)4. Roku and Simple TV were wired to router (not wireless for max performance).I get great picture HD quality through the Roku device with Netflix or any of the other HD streaming services. And I love the picture quality on for HD broadcast TV (antenna directly hooked up to TV) which is even better then HD on Direct TV. I was hoping to cancel my Direct TV service with the use of the Simple TV device as most of what we record is local stations (ie PBS, etc). The Roku channels for local channels services are not bad, but there is much that you don't get or have to wait for. Simple TV would solve this, and it does, but at the sacrifice of less then HD quality picture to your TV (via the Roku). I'm stuck with Direct TV until they get it fix.Once last note, the Simple TV device was very noisy. It has a loud internal fan and once it turns on, sound like a blow dryer on low and doesn't turn off. They need to figure this out as well.Returning my Simple TV unit :(

It's an okay device
I'm happy I bought it but it takes constant attention. It's not like the DVR we're all accustomed to but it definitely works. You can't start watching a recording while recording is in progress. Recording will stop the moment you hit play. I believe I have the latest software updates installed as of mid-June. The android app is easy to use but takes a few tries to get live tv to play through or even get a recording to start playing. The Roku app takes some patience as well but again, it does work.
