Castanets, 2 5/8, Ebony, Pair - DOBANI

Received them in a timely manner. Came in a pouch which was a very nice surprise. Very nice pair of castanets. They are not only very pretty (exactly as pictured) but, the sound out of them is incredible. Was a bit tricky trying to figure out which was R & L. Usually the right one has a small notch in the top. Not so in this case. Had to listen to the sound & decide which was which. The strings were VERY long. So much so that I had to cut them and re-string them. Not a hard thing to do. Overall, I'm very pleased with them 7 know that I will be playing them for years to come.

Not being an experienced castanet player, I have no professional opinion to offer. However, if you are looking for your first set at a reasonable price, I think you will like these. I collect world percussion instruments and learn to play each of them at a novice level. They have a nice deep sound - not that cheap clicky noise that you sometimes hear. Other reviewers have already noted that these are large for some hands. My hand is approximately nine inches from thumb tip to little finger tip and they are a comfortable size for me.

It's to early to tell yet as i have to go through a learning process yet. However they are well made for long lasting percusion work.

These are exceptionally well made, and relatively large. In fact, I would not recommend them for someone with small hands. They are almost unmanageable. And, unlike almost all other simple percussion instruments, which you could get to work reasonably well with little practice, castanets, especially ones this big, will require practice.

I am not pleased with these castanets because I own a pair of castanets that I know very well how to use them as I took flamenco dancing for many years and I know how castanets should sound but upon trying the castanets that I received from seller, one in each thumb, there was no sound coming from them, the shape of the interior of these was not hollowed enough to produce any sound, as they stick together therefore, I would like to have a return label sent to me from Amazon as soon as possible to return castanets to seller. Thank you

Con estas castañuelas incursioné en el toque de las mismas y al principio eran muy buenas pero con el tiempo perdieron sonido, están asonantes y ya no las uso. Además, los cordones se desgastan rápido y ya no hay cómo reemplazarlos, quedan en desuso.

I ordered these because there was a part that called for castanets in the pit band I was in for a play. I wanted to surprise the director by just playing them at the part in the play, and he was very happy and laughed when he heard it. But in any case, these are great Castanets, there's a high and a low one, and you'll need to know how to hold them, cause it doesn't come with instructions on how to hold them or anything.

My new castanets are wonderful and an excellent value for the price.

Un poco decepcionados por que no llegan con la marca de cuál es macho y cuál hembra (derecha/ izquierda), por el pecio esperábamos mejor calidad.

Very hard (not to say impossible) to get a decent sound out of these castanets. I have the feeling that the word "ebony" in the title refers to the colour and not to the wood they are made of, but hey, I could be mistaking! I returned these for a refund.
