Henri Cartier-Bresson: Scrapbook

Very poor muddy reproductions of photos. Poorly edited
I am a lifelong fan of Henri Cartier Bresson and have other books of his work. The best is "The Decisive Moment".This book is very large and has a quality binding. But the quality of printing the photos is terrible. They are tiny and muddy. Although the pages are large, the photos are tiny in the center of a mostly blank page. Furthermore the same photos are printed multiple time and greatly separated pages. It looks like different people edited various sections without checking other sections.I attach a photo of two books. On the left is this reviewed "scrapbook". Note that the photo is small and terribly muddy. On the right is the same photo in "The Decisive Moment" note that it has proper tones ranging from black to white.

Great Street Photos
My husband really likes Henri Cartier-Bresson's street photos and has spent many years trying to imitate them. He loves the book because there are many photos that he has never seen. Great treat for him.

catalogue
A very, very nice collection of HCB. It borders on coffee table and usable academic text but then I don't think the publisher ever intended this to be an academic representation. It is very well illustrated with some large and rare photographs. HCB had a large influence on me and I have loads of information. This book I thought of as more fluff when I purchased it. It has however turned out to be one of my main HCB sources.

Great!
Excellent edition, great print quality, thick and nice paper, proper text goes along the images. Feels as if you realy were checking HCB personal scrapbook. This is a highly recommended one.

a dissapointment
Most photos are much smaller than a full page - I returned this book.

A treasure and an extraordinary document of creative genius ...
Imagine an artist's everyday life in Nazi-occupied Paris, where he was surrounded by violence and the constant threat of violence, where his creative genius (expressed through the lens of a 1932 Leica camera) would produce scrapbook pictures that were literally smuggled from his pocket into our 21st century hands. You don't need to be deeply enamored of Henri Cartier-Bresson to be awakened by the stunning impact of this collection.Regrettably, those who find the book a disappointment (because of photos that are much smaller than a full page) are missing the point.

because it shows the "alternative" shots out of which the brilliant HCB chose "The one"
Very interesting book, because it shows the "alternative" shots out of which the brilliant HCB chose "The one"..Certainly a must have complementary companion for those who want to go beyond the "decisive moment". Well printed.

A must have book
Definitely a must have book full of interesting informations to better understand the first photo years of HCB until 1946, before the creation of the Magnum Agency.
