This large 10" by 8" and heavy Garuda mask is wonderfully scuptural and detailed. The Garuda is a large mythical bird, bird-like creature, or humanoid bird that appears in both Hindu and Buddhist mythology. I imported this directly from Nepal. Garuda is known as the eternal sworn enemy of the Nāga serpent race and known for feeding exclusively on snakes, as may be seen in this mask. In Hinduism, garuda is a deity. In Buddhist mythology, the Garuda are enormous predatory birds with intelligence and social organization. Another name for the Garuda is suparṇa, meaning "well-winged, having good wings". Like the Naga, they combine the characteristics of animals and divine beings, and may be considered to be among the lowest devas, or deities. The Buddhist represent garuda's wings as being several miles wide!! The color of the mask is most like as it's shown in my main picture, sort of a warm brown, not gold.
