Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary: 20th Edition (Thumb Index)

This book was first introduced to me in nursing school. It was the one reference that connected the dots for everyone, and helped us to figure things out when nothing else would. It's a must-have for anyone interested in medical issues, and it's intesting enough that you could have it as your only book, and remain amused for a long, long time! I would have loved this before nursing school. While in high school, or while in college earning my 4-year science degree, prior to nursing school, would have been a great time to have this easy to carry must-have. The pages are thin, almost tissue like, but durable, light and there are MANY of them. I hope you enjoy it too!! I bought a second one about 15 years after the first because they update these, and it is well worth it!

Best medical dictionary. I used one forty years ago when in medical school and I liked it. This one is for premed student.

So far my husband and I have found this book to be very helpful, we have only had it a month and are both taking medical terminology. He's taking the class for a biology degree, and I'm taking the class for massage therapy. Every time we have looked up a word, it has been there. If it needs a picture, there is one. It always gives you the root word with prefix and suffix separated and what language the word came from. The thumb index makes it much easier to find pages quickly than the books that don't have them. The definitions are easy to understand and are oftentimes more helpful than the definitions in either of our textbooks.

I had to learn how to use it, it's not like a regular dictionary. I use it alot now, almost every day.

I just recently got this for my Kindle and am using it for school. I was debating between the hardcopy or Kindle version. I already had the Mosby, which I like because of the color pictures/illustrations but too cumbersome to lug around. So far I'm quite happy with this purchase. I only found a few words not in the dictionary but I could easily switch to the Oxford dictionary that came with Kindle and find them there, although not as detailed but it's good enough. I have this also loaded on my computer - Kindle for PC version - which I don't particularly like using. I find it rather tedious as it searches for all instances the word is found but in the Kindle, the search is limited to specific entries. I would recommend if you're looking for a medical dictionary for Kindle.

This book was used, but in "like new" condition. The condition is so good that I wouldn't have known that it had been a used book except for the missing CD! The one I have does not have the thumb index, though; that's okay for me. I used this book in my Medical Terminology course to explain conditions & body parts better (it was actually a "suggested" item for my Insurance Records/Coding class & I didn't need it there). This book is required for my transcription course (I have been an MT for over 10 years, but am studying for another career; unfortunately, local college does not take work experience into account for college credits).

This book was recommended by my EMS class as a long life investment if you plan to be in the medical field... particularly if your going to be a nurse. I really love this dictionary over the Webster one because of the visual aides that the Taber's provides. Only down fall is it's not lightweight and the pages are like bible paper. Still, from my experience so far, it's been the best reference book for all that medical jargon. It really has come in handy for my EMT class. :)

I just received this product a couple of days ago but so far I have found it to be an excellent product. It is very useful and will definitely be the perfect tool that I need for my medical terminology course.
