Really good reels

The various round Ambassadeurs I have from the 50's to now. They are all working. Because parts are available to repair a broken reel. This reel is just the newest example of the 6500C3. It's a very smooth reel. It uses the new six pin brake. Don't know if that's better than the old two brake system but it's much easier to adjust braking. To me gearing seems to be quieter too. These are still the made in Sweden models and seem just as good as the older ones..They can easily be serviced. You can upgrade the bearings to six on these by installing some available parts. You can easily upgrade the bearings ABEC rating as well. Just good reels that have been around a very long time. Pure Fishing has bought up most of the iconic brands in fishing and moved a lot of production to China. Get one while they are still Swedes. The Chinese S models are different reels all together. Being round the only similarity to the Swedish reels. Parts don’t inter-change.

As always, Performance was great. Smooth and flawless casting, Great gear ratio and line capacity. Only use made in Sweden Ambassador reels for this reason. Will last a lifetime if taken care of and easy to service. Price was a big plus. If you’re serious about good fishing gear invest in these and never look back.

I have caught a lot of fish with this reel. Nice drag system and very durable. Make sure that you order the one made in Sweden. The Chinese model is a lot cheaper but also a lot poorer in quality.

My first Abu Garcia reel is about 30 years old. I was delighted to find out that they have not changed the design one bit. This new reel is every bit as smooth as my first one. They both will probably outlast me.

I always liked these reels. They are good for smaller bottom fish like sea bass, fluke and porgies. They are a decent price and the construction is acceptable.

I grew up with the old red 5000's. I bought this version instead of the c4 for the nostalgia of that annoying spool release placement. I have caught a few small fish with it in my last few trips. As it gets broken in, it steadily casts better. I recommend this reel for saltwater rigs and heavier baits. The weight of the high capacity spool makes it harder to cast light lures (under 1/4 oz) like most beetle spins. I think the nonadjustable centrifugal brake makes it harder to cast than the older, simpler models. Kinda like owning a superbike with training wheels permanently attached. It still casts pretty well, but not as freely as I remember the old ones. Maybe it just needs a few more years of use to really loosen up, but idk. These reels are rock solid against huge fish, good for saltwater, and easy to work on when they need maintenance. I recommend them for people who want reels that last through a generation when cared for.

This is the first 5500 Ambassadeur I've owned and I love it. I'm a pike nut, and this is the classic pike reel. It wont throw very light plastics, and there are better options for fishing muskie sized lures, but for 90% of what people throw at pike this reel is a perfect fit. Easy to maintain, easy to upgrade, parts are easy to get shouls you need them. If you only had one reel to use for big freshwater fish, this reel is king and will last a life time. That said... if you've alread got a medum spinning rig in the mix, the 6500 offers alot more capability for only a little more weight, with less overlap in capabilities.
