The seller expedited delivery on my Bible
I own two Thompson Chain Reference Bibles in King James. I have longed to have my favorite edition in ESV (English Standard Version). Thompson Chain Reference was my first serious study bible in the early 1970's. The binding and leather quality are to be admired. Its red letter and indexed. The gold leaf pages are without blemish, excellent workmanship by Kirkbride were excellent. I am giving it 4 stars due to finding one dog eared page. I don't mind buying a expensive Bible. Shrink rap was perfect. My wife loves to highlight passages and marks up her study bible with notations. I on the other hand leave the Bible pristine as possible. I consider it holy and also the whole Bible should be sacred and every word counts. I was no expecting a red letter edition. I must have overlooked this feature. Kirkbride provides a value that cannot be appreciated until to have it in your hands. Quality control should make sure of no dog ear pages. I own Logos Baptist Platinum edition and PC Study Bible Professional Edition. The PC programs are excellent however this "Sword" will leave you with something you can use for future generations without a PC It does not need updates and will be with you when the powers down. I love this Kirkbride edition Bible in ESV. I have been sold on ESV since visiting John Piper's Church in Minneapolis. The Kirkbride aforementioned edition should be in every ones survival pack. God Bless

Tremendous contents!
The Thompson Chain Reference Bible is one of the best study bibles available. Period. However, I would choose a different cover. The black genuine leather cover leaves much to be desired. It is very stiff and does not have a leather feel to it. Also, when open the spine of the cover bends in a very awkward fashion, almost as if it is twisted.

Better quality than it's KJV counterpart, but price is a bit high.
This is a review not of the actual content of the Thompson Chain Reference bible but of this particular edition (9780887076930 in black genuine leather, with index, regular size) and how it's manufactured. There is no doubt that the Thompson Chain references are essential in anyone's study. That being said, this is a pretty okay bible. Compared to it's KJV counterpart, it is definitely quite larger (ESV-specific material?) and it's paper is smoother (possibly thicker?). The book indexes are adequately sized, but the leather doesn't really feel "genuine" though I'm sure it is. It lays open pretty well in the hand, however I see this being more of a desk/table bible with it's sheer weight and size.I personally feel that this is worth up to $80 to $90 as opposed to it's current price of $110.
