If you need this for rice, you’re preparing it completely wrong. I’ve never had to strain rice. It is perfect when I cook it.

Although I haven't used mine to strain potatoes yet I feel certain it would do the job. It is very sturdy and the clips are strong and tight. Hope this helps.
