Iconic Images of Ted Williams is a superb book by a great artist
I am very familiar with Ted’s work, having known him since 1959 in Chicago. Many of his images presented in his book, are iconic for the artists Ella and Louis. But there are a variety of pictures I’e ever seen before, and they demonstrate not only Ted’s artistry, but the access he had to many of the musicians. “M. Moore” feels this is a “family album” of “snapshots,” which tells us more about him than Ted’s work. I’m not familiar with “M.Moore”s work, and I’ve been active in the photography of musicians for over 50 years, and I doubt that unless he photographs only for his private pleasure, he is probably less published than Ted, to less acclaim.. Also, though the work of Herman Leonard is superb, he worked in a different style than Ted, who chose to use available light for much of his work. Comparing them is apples and oranges; both were excellent.I also have some familiarity with the issues over ownership of the rights to these images, and am amazed that they were overcome and the book actually issued.

Ted Williams is the missing link between Wolf and Marshall in classic Jazz photography!
I found this book and this photographer, Ted Williams by mistake and it has been one of my greatest finds. I’m a photographer myself and fantasize about taking pictures like these of Jazz greats at shows and festivals in the 50’s and 60’s so I have books of Francis Wolf and Jim Marshall’s work.I’d seen many of these classic images before and had no idea that so many of them were taken by Ted Williams. And to top it all of, I found out that Ted Williams was a Black man, like myself. So in finding this book, I found a kindred and inspirational spirit! If you are a fan of classic Jazz photography of the 50’s and 60’s, do yourself a favor and get this book for your collection. You won’t be disappointed.

I was disappointed in "Jazz
As a photographer who has seen and photographed many jazz musicians from Count Basie to Joe Zawinul from the 1970's to the present, I was disappointed in "Jazz: The Iconic Images of Ted Williams". If you want more of a "family album" of the jazz people that Williams saw and photographed during his career, this book might satisfy your needs. However in a big expensive work like this I was hoping for more artistic and passionate images of jazz players as taken by Herman Leonard in "The Eye of Jazz" or Francis Wolf''s photos for Blue Note records. The majority of Williams' images depicted in this book are more of a "snapshot" approach.

Great bunch of photos
Great bunch of photos. Surprised that some notable figures were not, maybe never, photographed by Williams. Not in the book include Chet Baker, Mel Torme and Dexter Gordon. Lot's of good pix of Ella and Pops though.
