Perfect Spindle For Anyone Especially A New Spinner!
I bought this to learn how to drop spindle. It is perfect. Within an hour I spun my first yarn. Very easy to use and it is well made. The wood is also very smooth.

Love this drop spindle
Love this drop spindle. It was delivered quickly and I tried it out the evening it arrived. Once I started I didn't want to stop. I am a beginner at hand-spinning and started learning on a lighter spindle, decided to try something a bit larger and heavier. The spindle is balanced and easy to use, the price is good,I am very happy with it.

Serviceable, but...
It is making really nice, fine yarn. I'm having a swell time with it.However, there are two things that should be considered. If your hands are sensitive or you're worried about the wool getting caught on the spindle, the surface of the dowel (the stick part of the spindle) can be a little rough. I'd recommend sanding it down a little--if you want to paint or finish it, you'd need to sand it first anyway. The second thing--and the one that most annoys me--is that the notch is directly in front of the opening of the hook. It's better than having no notch, but if you aren't careful with how you wrap the yarn around the hook, it can slip off very easily. The notch is also very narrow, so it'll only fit yarn that's DK or smaller, if I had to guess.Because of the notch being in front of the hook, it's resulted in the yarn sliding out of the hook a few times and twisting in on itself after the spindle drops to the floor. On one occasion, the twist was so bad that it ended up catching on itself and forming weird little spiral knots that I had to take the time to try to undo without breaking the yarn. This is why I recommend the notch being behind the hook, or even at different angles for you to chose from. I do have another spindle, but it's a little heavier so not great for thinner yarns. Once again, though, having a notch is better than no notch at all. Another spindle I have doesn't have a notch, and I've found that if your leader yarn doesn't act as a guide from the hook to the dowel, it ends up sliding. If you want the notch to be larger or want another notch in a different place, you can try using sandpaper to make a notch elsewhere on the whorl.Otherwise, it seems pretty decent so far. I like the length of the dowel--it makes it easier to roll it off of my leg. So far, this is probably the most consistently thin yarn I've made. It spins pretty well, too.

Addicted to spinning
I am addicted to spinning now. I got this and several other spindles when I started and i like this one best. It's probably weighted a little heavy for laceweight though i've done the singles for plied sportweight with ease on it. I like that it will hold up to a full 4 oz of fiber vs. the other spindles that I got. Great for beginners.

Wood was rough. Seriously unbalanced. Probably better for a beginner.
I had the sand the shaft to keep yarn from snagging and to make it comfortable the use. The slot on the whorl is very tiny and will only work for skinny yarn. It's a larger spindle so I wanted it to ply yarn, but the slot makes that more challenging. The whorl isn't level, so the spindle wobbles like crazy after a few seconds. If I rest the shaft tip on the floor when spinning it's a lot better experience.

Easy to use!
Great spindle! I bought this in a hurry when my other spindle shaft snapped. This one is much sturdier! It's well balanced and easy to get the hang of. I'm happily spinning my dogs fur into yarn with it!

Nice Spindle!
Love this spindle! It's bigger than my first spindle, and it seems easier to spin my samoyed fur on it. I am enjoying using it.

Good and beginner friendly spindle
This spindle is a very good beginner spindle. I have used it almost daily after I purchased it, for spinning and plying. It is sturdy and durable. The only downside is that it’s a bit on the heavier side. Very good value for the price.
