good knife set for the price but has sharp spine
These are great knives for the price. The only complaint is I recommend dulling the 90 degree spine. Ive been cut 3 times by the spine of the knife and 0 times by the blade. The heel was a little dull but the tip was razor sharp. I only really use the chefs knife, but I dig that you get a whole set for peanuts. Not really sure how long the edge will last but seems to be going strong for a month now with veggies

Better than they should be
These knives are an amazing deal. They arrived extremely sharp and have stayed that way through moderate daily use. The steak knives are effective but I would upgrade for use w guests. Overall, my best purchase in some time.

Poorly constructed
Scissors broke within 1 week. Not very sharp. Get what you pay for.

I like the forged Farberware Knives
I just received these and unpacked them.My first impressions are of how small and light these are. I had a set of Farberware forged knives with red square shaped handles I liked very much but needed replaced. These feel significantly smaller and lighter than those. The blade shapes are different. Most noticeably on the chefs and the steak knives. I like the new serrations on the steak knives and bread knife. The handles feel really good in the hand. They have a good shape and texture. Some of the knives are really small with really small handles. I don't mind even with my large man hands. They give me the impression of "precision" for whatever reason. Overall, I like them.I expect them to serve me as well as the red handled Farberware knife set.I need to sharpen them and get a feel for the steel used.A few Protips for you because I made mistakes with past knife sets.1) hand wash and dry them. if you neglect them they will deteriorate.2) don't leave them lay in the bottom of the sink and let things clang around in there with and on top them.3) put them away in the block and not toss them in a drawer with other tools.4) buy a stone and keep them sharp. a few quick swipes to dress the edge every now and then will prevent major work later.Basically take care of them and they should last. if you don't do this you can't blame the knives for chips in the edges, rust, and bent tips. I beat on my last set and I regret it. I hope these are as tough as those were even though I plan to take better care of these.I will edit to update as I use these and develop a better opinion.8.12.18 update.I have had these for a good while now. a year and eight months. These are tools are not toys so they are showing wear. the blades are less bright as they once were. the "Farberware" name is fading. The handles are holding up just fine. always hand washed and dried, always stored in the block. After this time period of constant use, I will say that I still like them a great deal. It's rare that I let anyone use these knives because I keep them *very* sharp. a 35 dollar knife set... My brother used one recently and he exclaimed surprise in how scary sharp I keep them.yes I am bragging a bit, BUT the bigger picture is that for a 35 dollar knife set I can put and*keep* a razor edge on them. The big chefs will glide through a roaster chicken for a spatchcock style preparation for the smoker. (watch your fingers kids) I have been using 1500 grit wet dry sandpaper wrapped around a ridged hard plastic sanding block then polishing on a 2000/8000 whetstone.if you are on the fence about set to get, I would recommend these.

Great knife set.
I bought this set a a gift for my daughter. She had mentioned how much she needed some knives. The great thing is that I bought her the same one that she had picked out, and I didn’t know it. Worked out great. She has told me how nice they are, very comfortable to use. The price was pretty good for all you get. Was a perfect gift for her.

Undersized cleaver and bread knives, well made though
See item number in pictures because reviews are from different products and mixed up. These knives seem really well made and I love the steak knives, serrated. I was not expecting the undersized cleaver and bread knife. The wooden block is finished but not well. It feels almost like it wasn't finished at all. It turns out I have the scissors, I have had them for over a year and regularly put them in the dishwasher. I think these are good for the price. I am returning them because the cleaver and bread knives are a main reason I bought them and these don't live up to what I want. I can't say how the edges are or if they hold up.

Knife set.
They look nice, quite sharp straight out of box. Multiple months of usage without sharpening. (Bad habit). Would buy again.

Why 5 stars????
This is NOT a five star set. So why the rating? Let me explain...This set is 5 stars relative to the set I'm replacing. I had a nameless set with all serrated blades and plastic handles for the past 20 years. The knives had no tang and three of the six have broken. I also had a few mismatched dollar store knives loose in a drawer, all falling apart. You can see that any replacement of what I had was a step up. Is the Farberware a high quality set? No. It's what you would find in any box store like Walmart. There are deformations in some handles and some blades are a little crooked. Would you expect this at this price point? Yes. Do I need a quality set? No. If the garbage I had suited me for 20 years, the Farberware will probably outlive me.If you need high end knives, buy high end knives. If you need something at a good price, these are fine. I'm very satisfied with them but keep in mind it's all relative.

Just ok
The thing is no knife set lasts very long so why spend a ton. Just buy a new set every year of less expensive and save your money unless you are willing to drop a grand on knives they are all the same. These are very sharp out of the box and lots of variety but not that robust and will not last that long. Also they are not dishwasher safe which is a pain to wash and dry each time. I would recommend if you are not that fussy and plan to replace every year anyway.

Great Quality, Great Value!
Amazing set for the price! Handles are solid and there is weight to the knives so they feel durable. Dont throw in dishwasher. Do them by hand and you wont get any rust stains. The included block makes the set look really nice in our kitchen where all the appliances and accessories are stainless and black so it matches perfectly!

These are solid knives, with a nice quality block. The steel is nice quality, and the knives arrived razor sharp.I do, however, have two complaints:1. A few of the blades were crooked in relation to the handles. Does not affect functionality, but it’s kind of annoying.2. These are not dishwasher safe. Again, not that big a deal, but it would’ve been nice to know before the purchase. That being said, for the price, I will happily endure the little things.
