What is the hole in the cap used for?

Are the two bottles exactly the same? is there any reason i couldn't put olive oil in one, and avocado oil in the other?

With spout that doesn't close/seal, isn't it possible for a bug to get in?

Of course anything is "possible", but I bought my set because they were in use at a restaurant I frequent. The restaurant uses them to dispense syrup for pancakes etc at the tables. I talked to the manager and they have had no issue with these dispensers and I have had my set for 2 years now in my kitchen and have had no problems with them.
