Very engaging and uniquely written
Very nicely interconnected the science, the fiction and the philosophy revolving around human emotions and genetic outcomes. The story smoothly transitioned into different stages. The only thing I think it missed was how Kara got killed, it was way too easy to be killed like that with the abilities she had and I expected atleast some surprises that Logan should have faced when facing her in the end.

Not his best, Lucy anyone?
Have you seen the movie Lucy? This is lot like this but the premise is better. Upgrade by artificially altering genes. The book is fast paced and addictive, very hard to put down. But after I finished, 75% of it ... All that was left was ridiculous fiction and no science. So much so that I delayed reading through the final chapter because I was sure it will disappoint me.Again, maybe I have read Blake crouch too much and had high expectation. Would still recommend you read this book, one of the good sci fi. Not as good as hail Mary or other ones i read before it.

Bit of a Letdown
I am not much of a descriptive or insightful prose type reviewer though I used to be (many moons ago when life was a little less hectic) so let’s just sum it up in the corporate bullet point style, here goes folks.Pros:• Fast paced & adrenaline filled.• Dramatic twists.• A sense of compassion towards fellow human beings. Save the humanity agenda.• Protagonist is a family man though he doesn’t get to meet his family that often and is at loggerheads with one of them.• Genetic upgrade (human capability enhancement) is quite a novel concept in the genre of Sci-Fi thrillers.Cons:• Too much of jargon related to DNA, genetics, viruses, transmission et al.• Lacks the thrill factor of author’s previous works.• The whole story could have been reduced by 20-30 pages.• Loses its pace in between.• Ending was bit of a letdown. Many reviewers on Goodreads have rated it at par if not better than author’s last work “Excursion”. Let me just say that “Upgrade” is basically a downgrade (no pun intended) from the author’s previous works. While Excursion went a bit over the head with its convoluted storyline this one is pretty straightforward story telling but somehow it didn’t quite hit the bullseye so to say.No disrespect to Mr. Crouch though, along with Mr. Andy Weir he is still the best Sci-Fi writer out there. My order of preference for author’s works: Wayward Pines trilogy, Dark Matter, Recursion, Upgrade.I think you got the gist.

Fantastic Book to read
The storyline, plot, character-narration is awesome. Blake Crouch never disappoint us with his mesmerising climaxes. This book would be even better for biology nerds.

Nerdy medical SF thriller
UpgradeBy Blake CrouchRating: 3.8/5Audience: 16+ (contains violence)Genre: Medical SF/ThrillerReviewThis is a nerdy medical SF novel in which the protagonist has been genetically upgraded with superhuman abilities. The nerdiness is not necessarily good science. In fact, it's impossible science. However, to most readers, that's OK; it's the idea that counts. The idea is good and it is well developed. The novel is well written. It is easy to read. However, it's not great literature. It's a thriller. You might find half a page with single sentence and even single word paragraphs. The nerdiness will appeal to intellectual readers. The pace of action is just right; though, towards the end, it degenerates into action sequences that are more television than literature. The book ends with a nice twist. The book is good, overall, though not exceptional.

Interesting Topic, But kind of Draggy
The story speeds up in some places and slows down in some which makes it boring at times. Some action sequences are written in a painfully long narration. But again the genre is interesting, and had all the Blakes touch.

Captivating and motivating
An incredible blend of granular details about the science of our DNA, but softened by insight into the core of what makes life worthwhile. Crouch names his central character Logan, a name reminescent of both a runner and a superhero. But Crouch’s Logan more than anything else displays the best of what humankind should strive to be. This book is an incredible mix of science, adventure and compassion.

Fantastic read
This book checked all the boxes for me:- believable hard(ish) sci-fi- fast moving plot- great character development- no romance for the sake of having it- made me think deeply about the main premises of the plot- entertains storyExcellent book. I will likely read it again at some point

Good
Good but a little over my head. His other books were much easier to digest than this one. It has a lot of scientific terms and gene codes and it was a bit of a data dump.
