enhances the color and quality of composite deck.
It beautifully enhanced the faded color of my old composite deck to a rich and newer look as well as provided a good seal . Applies easily.

Revitalizes composite decking. Super easy to use.
Regarding the photos: Before - Tan/Brown During - Wet After - Slightly Cedar/Red (The original color) I had to rebuild and replace portions of my 15 year-old deck. I also installed new posts, sleeves, railings, and facia. Anyway, the composite decking is still in great shape, but it was faded. I was going to use a tinted sealer, but the reviews were inconsistent. I used this Defy sealer three years ago, and I was satisfied with its performance. I knew what to expect. My deck is approximately 300 square feet including the steps. After thoroughly pressure washing the decking, I used 1.5 gallons of Defy to do one coat. Doing a second coat may be a waste of time, because in my experience, the product repels itself when it fully dries. Lay it on generously while it’s wet. You’ll know if it’s enough. I used a long handle and a 9”, 3/8” nap roller cover. You don’t really paint it on, you push on. That’s why by it’s so easy to do. Dip the roller in the tray like you do when you paint. Make a puddle of sealer and push it onto the decking (a 9” roller spans across the width of 1.5 planks on my deck). I pushed the sealer the of the length planks until the puddle was gone, and dipped the saturated roller back in tray and repeated. Then, I back-rolled the wet areas to make sure everything was covered. FYI: I did cut in with a paint brush and a small microfiber roller. I noticed that the cut-in areas came out slightly darker than the rest of the deck. It doesn’t look bad though. It dries to touch from 30 min to a couple hours. To be safe, let it dry overnight before you put your furniture back on the deck. I believe the instructions say 12 hours. I finished the deck last week. It has rained for several days this week, and the sealer is doing its job. You’ll know it’s working, because the deck will have water beads and puddles on it after it rains.

Significant Improvement, but Issues
Applied this product per package instructions on 20+ year old composite decking which had badly faded with age. Went on easily (deck was pressure washed before hand, and dried out for more than a week), and covered a lot of area. It truly renewed the look; went from faded, flat, and washed out to something with some shine and renewed deeper colors. The "grain" of the product also looks much better. Overall I was impressed at this point. However two issues arose later which lowered the overall rating. First, in continued direct sunlight, even in moderate temperatures (Pacific Northwest), the deck feels slight tacky/sticky. It appears to be completely temperature related since it does not occur in cooler weather. Perhaps I was too liberal in applying it? Not a deal breaker, and after a couple of months I think the tackiness is somewhat reduced. We'll see how it is next summer. Second strange result: before application, water on the deck just disappeared, probably absorbed by the decking or something. Now it beads up (a good thing, I think?) and sort of puddles. BUT, as the little puddles sit, the liquid becomes sort of milky. When the water is nearly all evaporated you can still see hazy white residue where the little puddles were previously. This residue too disappears some hours later when the deck has really dried out. Looks like something is going on, but it does eventually disappear, so not a deal breaker. Overall we are glad we used this because the decking just looks waaay better. With cooler weather the tackiness is gone; have to wait until next summer to see if it becomes an issue again. The milky residue issue also seems to be diminished, and while unsightly while things are drying out, it does eventually disappear.

Learn from my mistake
I have a cheap composite deck. It has oxidized very poorly. Our house is only four years old but we have considered replacing it. I thought I would try this. At first I was applying this thinly brushing the liquid in. I was noticing it would dry fast and look basically the same. Then I started brushing where I would leave a good amount of the purplish liquid visible- making sure it got into the groves of the decking. This also allowed me to visually see if I was missing some spots. It looks great now, cant speak to longevity I'll update my review in a few months. If I have to do it every year its worth it, didn't take long and its worth the 50 bucks in product.

be careful of overspray
great product made my Trex deck look new it was 23 years old. The only thing is to be careful about overspray because once it sets up it is very hard to remove. I plan to use it again.

Extreme version but better than regular?
I have used this extreme version several times, as well as the regular sealer. Honestly, I don't see much difference in the endurance. I wish the composite stayed the same color as it is when the sealer is first applied. Unfortunately, any color restoration disappears when the product completely dries. It does not improve the appearance of any color fading. The Defy sealer does seal the decking, as you can see the water bead up after it cures. The most difficult part of the process is the cleaning and scrubbing. The sealer is quick and easy to apply. Buying this product is not any less expensive than buying products to maintain a wooden deck. If somebody tells you that composite decking is easier to maintain than wood, don't believe them. Composite is still a lot of work and annual maintenance.

Covarage
Great product does what it claims however the coverage stated on the information provided is a tad generous so knock off 25% when calculating overall area for your composite deck the product it’s a must

Easy Application
An old & somewhat degrading Trex composite deck was first cleaned with the DEFY deck cleaner. After drying to touch, the DEFY composite deck sealer was sprayed with a light coat onto the deck with a high efficiency airless sprayer. The application to about 850 sq. ft. of deck took about 30 minutes, with a second coat applied about a half hour later (deck was dry to the touch before the second application). The deck was left to dry until the next day. At the time of this rating, the effectiveness of the sealant is unknown. However, the deck looked like new with what looked like a “plastic-like” sheen on the boards. The DEFY Composite Deck Sealer, was the only product we could find for the condition of our deck. Our deck product was among the first composite materials available at the time of installation, & had started to decompose over 20 years. Given how well the deck looked after applying the sealer, we are very optimistic that the product will protect the deck material for years to come. The cost of sealing the deck pales in comparison to replacing the boards.

Easy to use
After looking for a proper sealer for my composite deck I found this brand in my seach of the internet. Watched some youtube videos about it and gave it a try. Got the first coat on and it went one easily. Not hard at all to use and easy to clean up after. So excited to find it! So far it has dried totally clear. Second coat tomorrow.

Kind of satisfied
Did not cover even small grease stains in composite decking. It did however rejuvenate the sun bleached decking that is less travelled. Would be a.far better product if a stain was available .
