I’ll start by saying that I have a pretty good inventory of basic tools and do quite a few DIY projects. What I did not have was the T30 or the T50 socket bits that were required to install this. So, I got this delivered…only to find that I had to go to Home Depot and buy those. They were about $5 each, so another $10 total. Not the end of the world, but just be aware.Two of the three installation steps are really easy. Note that you lose the bottle opener on the driver’s side of your tailgate since you have to take it off, but I assume you would for any other tailgate assist product. There is another bottle opener on the passenger’s side of the tailgate, so no big deal, really.As far as the one step goes that was kind of difficult—I think it would have been much easier if I had had a hex socket set. I did have the 8mm hex key required, but with the locktite on the bolt, it was actually very difficult to tighten with just the hex key and a total pain. I probably spent 30 minutes on this part and had aching fingers from pressing on the hex key so hard!Overall though, once it was on, I love it. Great quality and works extremely well. This is actually the same brand of tailgate assist that Ford uses, so that says something about this being a quality product. I would highly recommend this.

Right off, it's a great product, just buy it. The install took me 15 minutes (I'm very good with tools) - not everyone owns torque sets, you'll need a T-50 and a T-30, and an Allen-wrench.The lower bracket - the blue-tape on the screw that keeps it from loosening made it really hard to turn the screw with a screwdriver-style Allen wrench, it really needed the extra torque of a right-angle style which I didn't feel like digging out. The trick - hold the nut with a plyers, turn the screw down a bit then back it off then put it together. Yeah, you're not grabbing as much of the blue-goo-tape but they put in one a bit heavy making the screw hard to turn.Also the lower bracket - I read directions and look less at pics. I wasn't really seeing the angle to put the lower bracket on, and once it was tightened up and not looking right I saw in the pic it points sideways so the "cupped" end fits over the round-hinge mount of the tailgate. Would have been nice if the directions mentioned that in the wording and not just showing in the pic which didn't make any mention of it, you just have to notice that.Other than that, went right on and it works GREAT ... release the tailgate and just let go and it drops slowly, fully controlled opening, well worth adding this to your Maverick!!

Product works great. Easy to install. The pre applied thread locker is on really thick. I removed it and applied blue Loctite.

Installing on 2023 Ford Maverick Lariat HybridTOOLS - Need a T30, T50 torx socket, 5mm Allen/hex key, adjustable wrench, flathead screwdriver (optional). I HIGHLY recommend a 5mm hex socket attachment rather than a basic Allen key.INSTALL - You will have to remove the bottle opener on driver’s side. One plate is easy to get on. The second plate, on the tailgate, can be a hard install. I recommend pre-threading the bolt past the locktite, by holding the bolt with a wrench and using the 5mm Allen socket attachment. When placing into the tailgate, turn the bolt 90 degrees and use a flathead screwdriver to wedge against the plate as you finish tightening the bolt.Good product, works as advertised. Catches the tailgate at about 30% down and soft opens, but not too slow, the rest of the way.

So being in Canada it seems that everything is double or triple the price of our American counterparts.I can get this kit for a an F-150 for $26 I can get this kit for a Dodge 1500 for $28 but for a pint size pickup or the mini me I call the Maverick it's $56 why?I'm told supply and demand but that's garbage it's a new version truck and the parts of the no different than what's on the F-150.Okay rant over this was super easy to install it took me 19 minutes and that's only because I installed the nut on the back of the bolt that goes inside the tailgate the wrong way.Once I did the forehead slap it took me a minute and a half to install the bracket that goes in the tailgate.Funny story the Ford Maverick comes with bottle openers on each side of the tailgate who uses bottle openers anymore?This is a well-built kit everything goes together super well it will take you probably the inexperienced person 19 minutes.Follow the instructions and some of the review points that have been done here on Amazon and the little tiny backing nut is the only weird thing that most people might have an issue with and I was one of them and I consider myself to be a pretty above average backyard mechanic.But again no big deal I love the fact now that I have a soft opening tailgate which by the way Ford... you should have done that from the beginning.So why didn't I give it 5 out of 5 well I reserve that for only the best of things this is really good and I'm happy with it on my truck but it's 56.00...!!
