Can i put a 12 in shelf on an 8 inch bracket for kitchen shelves h olding dishes?

Mine are 10” and supporting a 12” deep floating shelf so they work for that but I don’t have a lot of weight on them but I believe they are rated for 80 pounds. I would recommend cutting into the Sheetrock to mount directly to the stud and then patching around them. The guy that installed mine said the 4 holes were slightly wider than stud so he could only attach one side directly into the stud but it was enough stability for my needs. Dishes might be another story. Bracket that has the two holes one above and below may be best for mounting to stud and holding that kind of weight.

What is the thickness of the back plate? Is it included in the overall length? Or is a 12" bracket actually more like 12 1/8" total?

the thickness of the black plate is around 1cm. it's not included in our shelf bracket's overall length
