This watch is so much more than I expected
I love watches. Let me just put that out there to start. I have quite a few, though I'd consider my collection very "budget friendly". I have some nicer watches I've received as gifts, but generally I like to stay around the $100 mark. Less if I can help it. I usually (always) gravitate towards G shocks, and have quite a few of those, but I wanted something, different. I feel like I'm getting bored of G shocks, especially for the money. I'll be honest with you- nothing I do in my daily activities warrants needing anything "shock proof". I'm laid up with a bad back as we speak, so unless I stumble limping to the refrigerator and miraculously bash my wrist against the wall, I'll probably make it just fine with a standard watch. Don't get me wrong, I love em and have daily driven one for the past 6+ years. They make many cool styles and colors, I just don't need the ruggedness that brings up the price tag. Which finally brings me to this little beauty by Armitron. Never have I ever even considered this brand, until the other day I was watching a Yankees game, live on Prime (well played Amazon), and they ran a commercial stating that Armitron has been a sponsor to the Yankees since.....I dont remember when..... not important....but here we are! I really wanted a fun watch with some color for the summer, but again, wasn't feeling G shock prices for a colorful watch I may or may not wear more than once. Well let me tell you, I was very pleasantly surprised! You know how when you hold a cheap watch, you just know? Well I didn't get that vibe from this watch. I've received a fugazi G shock once and could instantly feel the difference. This watch, at a very modest $22 bucks, doesn't even feel like that did. I put it on right out of the box, and it just felt right. It's comfortable, the band is pliable but doesn't have sharp plasticy edges....it's just nice! I can't speak for accuracy or if it's going to hold up to my vigorous activities of laying on the couch, but only time will tell. **I've read so many watch reviews and I promised myself I'd never make that tacky pun, and yet I couldn't help myself. I suck. If you made it this far in the review, you owe it to yourself to just buy it now. Like I said, I've been laid up on my back staring at the ceiling and window shopping for cheap watches, so I feel like I've seen them all. Admittedly I was a little worried on the yellow, but it has a touch of orange in it so it's not AS bright as you might be thinking, but still a statement piece for sure. As for functions, I have no clue. I haven't used a function on any of my watches since.....ever. I don't wanna be the nerd beeping through functions on my digital watch. "Hold on *beep* *beep* just looking for the timer, *beep* woops one too many, *beep* *beep*...." I'm good on all that. We have smart phones for a reason. Which, by the way, it does beep at every button press and according to reviews, I don't think it can be silenced. As long as the time and date are displayed, I'm golden. Maybe I should start using functions....I can use the stopwatch to see how long it takes me to get from the couch to the bathroom on my knees and try to improve my times. Hmph. Oh, and the backlight is pretty decent, too! Unlike similar watches that I discussed earlier whose lights are TERRIBLE. Hundred dollar watch and the light is a measily little bulb that barely does anything. Really Casio? It's 2021 guys. Time to step it up. This one though is cool as heck. The numbers all light up in blue and easy to read, almost reminiscent of the Timex Indiglos, and that just makes me happy. Buy it. You'll like it. /fin

Bodacious. Bold. And Beautiful. Highly recommended!
As stated this watch is bodacious, meaning it is attractive and admirable. It is bold, because it's a BIG watch (52.5 mm) with some bold features, and in my case it's a bold color (yellow). I've attached a photo of this watch next to my Casio Aviator watch to illustrate how large this Armitron 40/8397 is. And it really is a beautifully designed and executed watch. The numbers, markings, functional groupings, indicators, and artistic design elements are well thought out, functional, and easy to read. This isn't a ridiculously large watch, like one that would need to be worn on a chain around your neck, but it is BIG and makes a big statement when worn. It's a fun departure from my many other 'normal sized' (38-43mm) watches. I wear it sometimes when I bicycle or e-scooter around the city and definitely wear it as a casual watch on the weekends. It only cost $15.55! It has an amazing list of features and it comes from a long-lived company with a good reputation for quartz watches. I own numerous Armitron dress watches and sports watches and you definitely get your money's worth with Armitron. Highly recommend - buy it, love it, and have fun with it! I'm going to purchase the awesome RED one next!

Durable, inexpensive, comfortable, and looks great!
I've ordered at least 10 similar mens watches like this to use for work since they're inexpensive and durable. This watch takes a beating and continues to work fine. The only thing I don't like or the only complaint I have is the plastic cover over the face is made of a plastic which is not scratch resistant. After a while of putting the watch through the grinders the plastic gets scratched up, and eventually I need to replace it. Would be nice if they offered some type of film or tempered glass screen protection. This particular one is the one I'm going to buy moving forward as it has the gray background with black numbers so it's easy to see. And it's not dual type (analog and digital). The dual type (analog and digital) are never an option for me any longer due to the analog clock arms blocking something I need to see in the digital areas at least 50% of the time. Highly recommend this watch. I hope this helps you. 👍

Nice but not perfect
Nice watch for the price. My only criticism is the pins that hold the bands had to be replaced by my local watch shop because they were the wrong size. Right off the bat the band came right off because the pin was not the right size.

Better than those Casio watches!
Best sportwatch ever! Great light, big display, and stands out on my wrist as I referee!

It's an Armitron!!!!
Hey, what can you say about Armitron. I have been wearing Armitrons since the late 1970,s. I'm guessing, but this is at least my my 10th Armitron, but I have owned probably more. I actually have 2 somewhat expensive Armitrons from the 80,s. THE GOOD: I purchased the yellow, love it. Very nice looking light duty inexpensive sports watch. Always loved the fun gadgetry of Armitrons. Purchased specifically for the price point, under $20. I needed an inexpensive durable watch for work. I frequent construction sites and remodel locations and am always around construction materials. Sometimes I have to remove my watch, so I wanted something I wouldn't worry about damaging or losing. This fit the bill. I recently learned my lesson with my very expensive Bulova when I cracked the crystal at a job location. That was a $400 oops just for the crystal. THE BAD: Nothing bad to report. As it is with Armitron, if you have owned an Armitron gadget watch, setting up the watch can be a pain. The directions are hard to read on the tiny little direction sheet they give you and the set up can be confusing. But, hey, that's part of owning an Armitron. But again, its an Armitron, it get 5 stars. THE UGLY

Cheap watch, but you knew that.
It's so yellow! It's bright. It's plastic. It has lots of information at one time. It looks neat, and you can wear it in the shower! It's durable, and the included instructions make it easy to set the time and date, and learn all of the many functions that it has. The band is cheap plastic, but it's durable cheap plastic. It's rather thick, though, and kept snagging on my long sheeve shirts when I was working. Other than that, it's a great deal for what it costs.

Premium watch for a great price, super reliable
I've worn Armitron watches for nearly 30 years now, and I have absolutely loved them. They have all the features of the more expensive brands, but at half the cost, and in my opinion, more durable. I abuse my watches at work, and these have always held up well. I've only had 1 battery die out on me, after like 8 years, the other 2 I've worn, the bands ended up wearing out and tearing, both at around the 8-10 year marks. They are waterproof, the light works well, and it's easy to read day or night.
