Heartbreakers and Fakers

A teenage shame spiral
Nothing gets me turning pages like a YA novel. I don't know what it is, maybe that it feels a bit like watching a movie, but once again, I found myself inhaling a book in one sitting. I enjoyed Cameron Lund's debut, Best Laid Plans, and I've been waiting for the price to drop on this one. I finally treated myself and as per, I had to gorge myself instead of making it last.Heartbreakers and Fakers is the story of Penny, her best friend Olivia, and their boyfriends Jordan and Kai. Penny is always in Olivia's shadow but it's where she's most comfortable having been a lonely child who was teased by Olivia. After an act of kindness from Penny, she get's picked for best friend status and soon she's one of the popular crowd. After harbouring a life-long crush on Jordan, they're finally dating. Except she gets drunk at an end of school party and kisses Olivia's boyfriend Kai. It's a shame spiral from there. This is a messy tale of a messy girl who's insecure and desperately trying not to go back to being the lonely girl with the unfortunate nickname. She makes lots of mistakes and isn't always a nice person. I like reading books about people like that because that's what most people are, especially teenagers. I really wanted Penny to do a Kelly from 90210 (if you know, you know) at the end, but otherwise, this was a really fun ride.

it was cute
Cameron Lund improved so much(so its only fair I bump it to a 3.5) and it’s only her second book, the development between the two love interests was developed so much better compared to Best Laid Plans, we saw the course of their love/hate relationship and their first interaction which I feel like is so important in developing romances, but it was also very wholesome. I'm not gonna lie the continuous flashbacks were irritating me so much, but I understood their purpose. This was an enjoyable read, not that her other book wasn't, but there was some things that kinda rubbed me the wrong way, not with this one though. I appreciate that she touched on the male love interest being from an Asian background and how it has been hard for him growing up in a community where not everyone looks like him or understand his experiences. The female love interest kind of irritated me sometimes because when things got messy she would always remind the male love interest how she hated him and would go back to hating him again, like give him a chance this is not elementary/middle school, people change. Anyway, I felt the relationship between her former best friend was resolved well. It may not be the perfect read but I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to Cameron Lund’s new releases.

Another Great Book!
This book was amazing! I really loved the idea of finding yourself. This book had all of my favorite tropes wrapped up in one. Enemies to lovers is a favorite of mine as well as there’s only one bed trope and the fake dating trope. I really loved how this book made you feel like you’re back in high school with all the drama going on every other chapter somebody’s getting betrayed and there’s new fights going on and petty comments and it was really fun to feel like you’re back in that age. My favorite part of the book had to be Kai I love how early on you can tell that he likes her but he just goes along with whatever piece of her he can get. This book was another win by the author and I will definitely be reading any new books she has planned.

such a shallow book
What a waste.. childish charactersI think I read like 5 pages before realizing that..There are a lot of y/a romantic books about a main character that is shallow but then find the right path..Here A-L-L the characters are so child like, Not one that seems interesting enough..I really recommend if you love the plot pf a girl being a bitch turns- best version of her self- read “If I’m Being honest”Great story full of depth. At least way more than this one…Just awful
