Works like magic, smells like something died
It’s amazing how well these work! I’m still amazed at how many flies it catches! One hint: Place them up wind and further away from eating areas or sitting areas because after 1 day it literally smells like something died (and it’s not the flies)

Great product
This has been the best solution to my fly problem around my house. The smell isn’t as bad as some of the reviews say. I don’t smell it at all after initially filling it with water. Unfortunately, the price has risen about $30 since last purchasing so I probably won’t be buying again anytime soon for that reason alone

Effective fly graveyard (disgusting, BUT IT WORKS!)
Okay, I'm giving this thing 5 stars, which, according to Amazon is "I Love It," but "love" isn't quite the right word, considering, as everyone has pointed out, this thing is about rotting flies and it stinks. But, THIS THING WORKS! When we moved in to our new house, we were surrounded by houses with dogs and had tons of flies. We never wanted to sit outside and the flies kept coming in to the house. My mother, who lives in another country uses something similar to these and suggested I try find the equivalent here. I have a large backyard with trees, so it is easy to find places to hang these away from the house. I would not recommend it if you have a small backyard for the smell is just too much and it is disgusting (it is NOT for inside!). When you set it up, it takes a couple days for it to begin attracting flies - the one that I have that is not exposed to very much sun is not as effective as the one that gets more sun (I'm gathering it's the rotting smell of whatever is in there that attracts flies). I hung them up and at first didn't see any flies attracted to it all. Then I realized I put the little red top in the wrong holes, which closed up the top and flies couldn't get in or even smell what was inside. So I put the red top on properly and within a couple days of it fermenting was in awe at the amount of dead flies trapped in there rotting away. Like someone else mentioned, I can't help myself to look everyday because there are just so many dead flies and it's just so disgusting!!! It also seems that the more flies you catch, the more are attracted so it fills quite quickly (I've had mine for about 2 weeks and I think it'll last another 2 weeks or so). I'm back to buy some more as they are so effective. I have cats and when I opened it, they were attracted to the smell, but since hanging them up, they have essentially left them alone, so that's not a problem. This is such an effective product and so easy to use. It is non-toxic which is important if you have pets or kids (we use enough pesticides in this world, do we really need more?) and I would highly recommend it. We have gotten our backyard back, so can't be happier.

Effective at catching flies but smells horrible
I purchased these fly traps to get rid of an overwhelming amount of flies we had in our outdoor kitchen/pool area. They were making it hard to enjoy family gatherings or just sitting outside in general. Overall, the traps are easy to set up and use but they smell terrible - like rotten fish. They work great - all the flies were attracted to the trap and were caught in the bag, but it was an unpleasant smell that we unfortunately had too close to our sitting area. I would recommend using these away from where people will be hanging out or eating.

Select a good location, and this will be a very effective product.
I gave it 5 stars, because the product works EXACTLY as it is supposed to work. I purchased this specific one based on an article recommendation for getting rid of horseflies. They have been a big problem here this year (we don't have horses or livestock...just inside dogs and a cat). We live about 1/2 mile away from a house that has 2 horses, so it's not like we needed this to keep the barn clear. I just wanted to be able to go outside with the dogs without me or them fleeing in panic from the attacking horseflies. We have not had a problem ever with common houseflies. The product works just as touted. We hung it about 60 feet from the house (they recommend at least 30-45 feet) in a location where we always find horseflies.Day one there was some fly activity, and by day 2 and 3, there were tons of flies caught in the trap and dead floating on the liquid. However, there has not been a single horsefly in or near the trap. The powder attractant smells awful (like ground-up cadaver), but only the dogs seem to be able to smell it from the house. I can smell it if I get within 5-6 feet of it, so it is doing what it is supposed to do. But keep in mind it ATTRACTS flies to the area of the trap. That's what it is supposed to do, so it is a good thing. But now, we have a housefly problem all the way up on the porch. If you need to control a fly problem in a barn, this is your solution. But if you are looking for yard control, I would really analyze your yard and select placement prior to purchase to ensure you are not attracting something you don't want to your living areas. If you are trying to get rid of horseflies, don't bother. This product does not sell itself on getting rid of horseflies....only regular flies. I only purchased it for horseflies because of an article I read about horseflies had recommended it. Unfortunately, I think the dogs and I will just have to wait until rainy days or colder weather to play outside, as there seems no way to get rid of the horseflies.
