Good flavor, lacks kick
I'm originally from New York but have lived in Chicago for 20 years. It's damn impossible to get any Manhattan Clam Chowder out here. Finally, on a whim, I tried ordering on here, and this brand looked decent so I gave 'em a shot. For starters, it's a canned soup - you'd definitely get better in a deli, but beggars can't be choosers. Also, I tend to love a bowl of manhattan clam chowder when I'm sick, so I'm not about to make it from scratch. The goal is just to get some manhattan chowder in me to fight of my cold, not to make it form scratch when I already feel lousy.Pros:* Good flavor and texture. High clam content. Flavorful potatoes. Lots of clam flavor.Cons:* It lacks kick.I'd recommend adding some black peppers and some cayenne pepper to it, to taste. It really helps it quite a bit. With some extra pepper in it, this is a perfectly acceptable soup.

Real Clam Chowder with Real Tastes - Yummm
This package deal of 12 cans of Manhattan Clam Chowder from Chincoteague is just simply fantastic. It tastes just as it should: Manhattan (red) Clam Chowder. It does have a tad too much sodium but I just eat less of something less ot make up the difference. Each spoonful is filled with taste and each taste has different flavors but the overpowering flavor is clams. Each time I went to our local grocer's store to buy groceries I would always pick up at least one of these and one of the New England (white) Clam Chowder soups; however, our grocer is getting smarty pants and only carrying popular brands. That might be construed as code for 'cheap' and 'high turnover' products. He, for example, does not carry A-1 Bold and Spicy or Thick and Hearty Worcester Sauce. When he carried Chincoteague soups he charged over $1 per can more for the same product. Fine, take your oligopoly pricing and I'll continue to increase my Amazon purchasing and save money at the same time.Seriously, this is a fine product with an even finer taste. Thank you Amazon for being there for the people and we'll be back soon.

Good Manhattan Chowder
The soup is very good. I place a 4 instead of a 5 because it is a bit salty ( used to less salty foods though) and not a thick as I like it. Although I compare all my chowders to the very best in the world and that is/was Moe's Chowder house in Newport Oregon; not available in stores! So I am hard to please. For the price, and how hard it is to find Manhattan Clam chowder locally, I still give it a 4. I will buy more unless I discover a similar chowder that is thicker with more clams and veggies.

Tasty and versatile.
I'm not a hardcore Manhattan Clam Chowder afficianado but I do know what I like so here's what I think of this soup. It's an excellent basic Manhattan Clam Chowder in that it tastes first and foremost of clams, and there are plenty of minced clam pieces in the soup. You'll be getting clam in the first and last spoonful. And because it stays true to the clam taste it works well when other seafood like shrimp or fish meats, both plain and flavored are added.I'll sometimes add Star-Kist Lemon Pepper or Sweet 'n' Spicy flavored Tuna packets just to dress it up a little as a main course.I like that the Manhattan flavoring is more subdued, unlike Progresso and Campbell's, because it makes it easier to mix this soup as a base for other dishes.

excellent canned soup
Buying groceries from Amazon has 2 potential benefits: lower prices and access to items not locally available. This product excells in both areas. It took me forever to track down manhattan clam chowder locally. The only product I found was Progresso ready-to-eat. You only got 19 ounces for $3. Since the Chincoteague is condensed you get far more soup per $.As to taste, I compared the soups side by side. The Progresso had a bit more depth of flavor, but it wasn't coming from clams. Even though both soups were only heated until a simmer appeared at the edge of the pots, the clam meat in the Progressor was very chewy and not very abundant. The Chincoteague had plenty of clam meat which had very good consistency. The broth was well flavored with hints of the ocean. In my opinion, this is as good as canned clam chowder can get.

Pretty good Manhattan CC
I purchased both this and the Progressive MCC. I like the taste of this one better--it tastes to me more like "classic" MCC. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because it is condensed and so you have to stir in the water. I realize that if you had ready-to-eat (instead of condensed), it might not taste as good. Nonetheless if they had a ready-to-eat that tasted as good as this, I'd give it 5 starts.

CAN not do...
I am very fond of Manhattan Clam Chowder and have been fortunate enough to sample hearty authentic delicious varieties from coast to coast. My local provider has gone out of business and I have been searching for a suitable replacement from restaurant providers and canned varieties. After trying this brand both diluted and undiluted I must tell that my search goes forward. This is typical canned soup. High in sodium and low in flavor. Of course if you like cloying tomato soup with a "fishy" hint to the flavor and aroma this may satisfy you. However, do NOT purchase a full case before giving the soup a try.It may be better than some other canned varieties but this the most I can say for this underwhelming product.

needs work
pretty plain and boring by itself. add some crushed red pepper/parmesan cheese and it is decent.Jakes clam chowder was awesome and I wish they still made it but alas we are stuck with this. Its a decent price for how much you get and the fact that its condensed is even better. try milk with it for creamy manhattan.
