You’ll have to add a much larger air stone, pump is very loud
The overall build of this with regard to the box and lid is pretty decent, but there’s many issues with the pump and air stone provided as well as a few other things. For such a low wattage pump it is insanely loud for some reason. It’s not the vibrations onto a hard surface either, the motor itself is just incredibly loud. Ultimately it’s not usable for this application both because it is too loud and because it won’t provide the amount of air needed for a propogator like this. For these things to work well the cuttings need for the air bubbles to agitate the surface of the water to sufficiently provide a lot of oxygen to the water and the cuttings themselves and each cutting needs to be exposed to that. This air stone would only be sufficient for a couple of sites in this box or placed into a jar or vase of cuttings; it does not provide nearly enough air or agitation for this unit. I ended up placing 2-3 12” long air stones in the base of the unit and added a 250 GPH pump for it to work as it should.I appreciate the addition of a water level indicator, but this one is very very loose and the gasket it sits into is slightly too large, so it allows it to tip over a bit and will fall out when lifting the lid. I’ll probably add a rubber gasket/grommet into the current hole to fix this problem. There’s not a clearly marked fill line on the inside of the unit, so it’s a bit of a guessing game as to where to fill the water to when first starting out. I’d also recommend adding a small submersible aquarium heater to the tank since warmer water will produce better results. I’ve seen some people recommending a heat mat but those should not have significant weight placed on them or they will break or potentially cause a fire- please do not set this on a heat mat!Overall I’m not upset that I bought this and it was pretty cheap. I’ve built many propagators but they’re rarely able to look incredibly aesthetic and I wanted something that could sit amongst my living room plants and not look like random parts from Home Depot or a cut apart tote container lolI do wish the manufacturer would provide a more sufficient air stone(s) and at very least a quieter pump. I think I’m going to have to relegate this one to my sun porch and maybe add an extra air stone to my leca storage bucket.
