AQUANEAT Aquarium Bio Sponge Filter Breeding Fry Betta Shrimp Nano Fish Tank,3pcs (Middle up to 20Gal)

I bought these in a bit of a panic. I was moving, my fish tank contents were going into a bucket for the move, and I had not intended to have a filter in there as originally, the bucket was going to be substrate, hardscape, plants, and snails.Then a wrench in the shape of a rogue shrimp showed up in the tank (I had rehomed my other fish and shrimp so as to not put them through a 10 drive through really awful weather. Apparently, I missed one.)Suddenly I needed a filter and a heater. I bought this set of sponge filters and I'll be honest, I was never fully convinced of the effectiveness of sponge filters before this. I figured that they were good for minimal filtering and mostly aeration... at best.I got these and proceeded to move everything into the bucket for the move. I have a substrate that is particularly dirty, no matter how much you rinse it or vacuum it. It's ALWAYS FILTHY. So I was not at all surprised when the water in the bucket turned nearly black from yuck as I moved everything into the bucket.I put the sponge filter in and didn't really think more of it, just got back to packing and trying to get ready for the move.I was completely floored and shocked when I peered into the bucket about an hour later and the water was CRYSTAL CLEAR. I mean, COMPLETELY, 100% CRYSTAL CLEAR. I understand that the substrate is cleaner than when I put it in the tank initially (after several years of filtering, I would certainly hope so), but back when I first put in this substrate, clear water took more than a WEEK of aggressive filtering with a HOB filter, changing the filter floss daily, and water changes daily.During the move, the bucket got shaken around in the car, then hauled into hotel rooms with me, shaken around more as I got it onto and off of luggage carts, up onto tables, off tables, etc. But the filter continued to get that water clear in less than an hour. EVERY TIME.I'm so shocked, that even now, a month after the move, I still tend to be amazed and wax eloquent about how amazing this filter is/was.I was wrong, Cory was right. Sponge filters are amazing.I completely recommend these and will buy more in the future, in case I need them! Heck, I'll probably rejigger my 3-gallon quarantine/hospital tank so that it gets a sponge filter instead of the built in filter system that is sort of a sump and sort of a hang on back. (it's one of those all-in-one tanks, what can I say, it was the right price and the right size at the time.)

I bought these to replace a HOB filter for a 5 gallon shrimp tank. The sponge filters are perfect because they will not suck up baby shrimp. Two fit in each corner of the tank. I couldn't figure out how to install the airstone it came with but they still work great. Will buy again.

What can I say that the headline hasn't already said. These are a must for any Betta tank as they are extremely easy to use, easy to clean, easy on fish and easy on your pocket. I am considering getting more just for emergencies.

I use these in small tanks for fry, sick fish, or any time I need low maintenance biological filtration.For the price these are great. If you take them apart, and get a little creative you can add an air stone inside for smaller bubbles, and better up lift.

Good quality spong filter at a good price. My only complaint is with all sponge filters of this type the length of the lift tube. I mean for all companies selling these how hard would it be to include a longer tube option or just a longer tube you could cut to fit your application.
