Volcanic wines
This is an incredible book! Having visited Pompeii, hiked Mt. Etna (saw a minor eruption), tasted the vocanic wines, talked with the local Vintners, and drank the volcanic water, I can honestly say that all wine enthusiasts must buy this book, as it will be a great resource and introductory to the world of volcanic wines.

A good text with a broad overview of a variety of volcanic influence wine producing regions.
This is a lovely text with amazing photos. There are two negative points: First, I received a badly beaten up copy, so I requested a replacement. A new one arrived in barely better condition. It looks like this might be an issue with how Amazon received them since both books were packaged differently from Amazon and the second was nicely snug and did not appear to have sustained the damage in transit from Amazon to me. It was minor rubbing on the spine and the corners. Nothing terrible, but definitely noticeable. I kept the second copy anyway. The second is that the text is rife with grammatical errors. I understand that the author might not be writing in his native language, but an editor should be able to catch these errors. I would not have deducted a star for the grammar, but I did for the condition of the book both times. The text covers volcanic regions in the US (mainly Oregon, California, and Washington), South America (Chile and Argentina), Greece, Italy (Sicily), Spain (Canary Islands) and a few others. It is quite interesting reading about these regions and the influence of the volcanic soils. The author also highlights local producers of note. Again, the photos are amazing! Also, some of the photos are captioned incorrectly. One photo showed Soter's Mineral Springs Ranch and mentioned it was in Eola-Amity Hills. It is in fact in Yamhill-Carlton. (I know because I live nearby and was a club member there for years). Others list the photos (from L ro R usually) but a few times it seems the photos were switched and the caption not updated reflecting the new location on the page.Recommended as a companion wine text for those interested in wine and getting geeky about certain wines (in this case from grapes grown on volcanic soils).

A Beautiful and Interesting Book!
What a wonderful publication! Excellently researched and well written, it's an extremely informative read. Wine aficionados will appreciate the insights and the detail but, additionally, a colourful presentation of maps, charts, labels and stunning photography, all in a beautiful layout, will ensure that even those with just a casual appreciation of fine wine will be enthralled. Complemented by descriptions and ratings of some of the most notable international winemakers, this book by highly respected Canadian wine writer, John Szabo, deserves a spot on shelves and coffee tables around the wine world. Bravo!
