Takes some getting used to
This thing works as advertised. In my experience, the most important part of using this device is getting your lawn to the correct saturation. You don't want it too soggy, and soil that's too dry won't allow the corers to go into the soil at all. It takes a little experimentation to get the lawn to the goldilocks wetness. You also have to work hard actually punching this into the ground. Once you figure it out it's easier but still a lot of work to do a large section of grass. I do about 200sf in a day before I've had enough. But it does the job when the ground is prepped properly, and the core collector is a must. Otherwise you stomp on the cores, which then end up as mud clumps all over. The assembly instructions were not great. The aerator is fairly well built. I would advise actually following the recommendation in the instructions and use it with two corers first so you can get used to how it functions and then add the other two. Using it with four aerators is definitely harder than with two, but it goes faster. Lastly, be prepared to have to clear jams from the plugged up aerators once in a while. They provided a too that works pretty well, but I use it with a rubber mallet too. All in all, I'd buy it again if I had to. It only got 4 stars because it will rust if not cleaned and dried properly. That seems ridiculous to me. Also, as mentioned, the instructions could have been much more clearly written.

A great product compared to others!
I bought this aerator after having bad luck with other aerators from other companies getting clogged constantly, despite doing everything right with regards to the moisture level of my clay soil. This one almost never clogs, and when it does it's easy to push the clog through. Perhaps the tines on these have a better tapered design compared to other products? I also really appreciate how easy it to use the Step n' Tilt, and my back is thankful also. I have a 18x30 (California native grass) lawn, and it takes me about one hour to aerate it, with lots of holes created. I also really appreciate the container, saving me from having to pick up the clogs of dirt. Advice: read the directions provided about how moist your soil should be before aerating. And for those of you wondering which is better: "aerating" by using a tool that creates holes by pushing soil down, or aerating by pulling out clogs of soil: definitely the latter! Using spikes to push holes into the dirt does not help aerate clay soil in the long run at all because it's compacting the soil beneath the hole. Pulling clogs out makes small holes for water to fill and soak into the ground. With my lawn, it takes very little time for the holes to "disappear" from view as grass grows over them and organic material fills them.

A good work out
It is made well. It takes some practice. Definitely works when soil is super saturated. I use it in the rain for best results. Would of been 5 stars but one or two of the hollow spikes get clogged even when soil is super wet. Not for big areas unless you want a work-out. Only small or hard to reach area.

Excellent engineering, wet lawns only
I've paid a contractor to aerate our lawn the past several years. But now he's bought new equipment and can't make it through our breezeway to the back yard.As long as you follow all the directions, it will work very well. I needed less than 2 minutes aerating with one pair of tines until I was ready for the advanced two pair of tines advanced aeration.Once I used the 4 cores at once, I had to step on the aerator with my full weight and shake it slightly left-to-right to get it to enter fully through the soil.As long as you're prepared to break a sweat this is an excellent choice for small lawns. It took me 90 minutes to aerate my 5000 sq ft backyard. All for less than the cost of a single trip from my [ex-]contractor.

Best manual aerator I've tried so far
I've tried a number of manual aerators - everything from spiky shoe bottoms to DIY iron pipes screwed to a board. This one has been the best I've tried so far. Assembly was fairly easy - some parts had to be finessed to go together, anyone with decent mechanical skill should have no issues assembling it.I followed the instructions in only using it on wet turf, so I either used it after a rainfall or running my sprinklers. It was easy to use - wheeled it a bit, lowered it and stepped down on it to fully insert the spikes in the lawn. Occasionally a spike got clogged with mud/debris and the spikes had to be cleared out manually. It seemed to always be the same spikes, which makes me think it was a manufacturing issue rather than issues with what they were picking up. Not a huge issue, but not 5 star performance either. I've got pretty tough turf and the occasional rock in my yard and the spikes dealt with both with no real issues. If a rock didn't move out of the way, I simply moved the aerator a couple of inches and depressed it again. It definitely seemed sturdy when used as directed.I probably would have given this item 5 stars overall, but some of the items came rusty and combined with the occasional clogging made it a 4 star item IMHO. Is it a good value for the price, absolutely!

Sturdy, low effort, doesn’t clog, NOT made in China
After buying multiple manual aerators, I can definitively say this is the best I have used. It pulls very nice cores and hasn’t clogged yet (make sure you get the newest version). It is incredibly sturdy, all metal parts are very thick. Even though the handle is not one complete piece, it is very thick and connected with good hardware so it feels like one complete piece. It is effortless to use compared to the two prong aerator I usually use. In addition, I don’t have to rake up all the cores, which usually takes just as long as aerating. They sell replacement tines in case these break. Based on the way they feel, I doubt they’d break anytime soon, but nice to know they can be replaced rather than having to scrap the whole thing. Finally, as someone who lived in China for over 10 years and avoids made in China products, I can say this does not seem like anything made in China. It’s way too sturdy to be.
