Oil & Gas Company Analysis: Petroleum Refining & Marketing

Broadly informative, but no depth and many typos
The book reads a bit like a very engaged blogger's journal, with an informal tone and quite a few typos throughout. It is perfectly understandable, even if you don't have a petroleum engineering background. While the book addresses some of the basic, big picture concerns for those just starting to look at the downstream/refiner space, it is hardly enough to really bring an investor up to speed. There were an impressive amount of graphs, charts, and tables to bring context to the book's sections, but at a certain point it made me wonder if the author was trying to use tables and graphs to disguise the lack of depth or discussion of some of the more complex areas of the refining space. On occasion a nugget of real insight crept through. This book is best for someone new to the space, trying to learn about how to understand the financial and operating reports of a refining company and trying to make heads or tails of how the refining process works from a broadly general view. It won't let you understand the economic tradeoffs between moderately complex and highly complex refiners, for example, but it will at least draw attention to the fact that there are tradeoffs. Overall, I would probably only recommend the book if it were half the price. $25 is a bit steep for what the authors offer.

Professional Expertise at Your Fingertips!!
This is a must read for anyone peripherally or directly involved in the Oil & Gas industry as well as the casual, outside observer. In fact, it should be used as a reference manual to include in one's personal library. The broad explanations contained in the chapters gives overall insight into the complexities of the hydrocarbon sector, coupled with detailed descriptions for those interested in knowing more. Thus I highly recommend this book.

Pls reply on question addressed!
Shipment super. Contents in general, , besides some typo's (page 152: fuel sales should be $27 MM), very good. However, I am extremely disappointed that the author is not replying my question regarding the calculation of the NPV at $ 21.60 with an i of 10% on page 114? How did he reach this figure, what is the starting point? In case no questions or comments are welcome, why putting an email on page 11?
