Who's the target?
Anna Pigeon is now on fire fighting duty on Cumberland Island off Georgia, nesting grounds of the rare loggerhead turtles. There’s no fire yet, only the conditions for fire, so the crew is on presupression detail.A drug interdiction plane has been buzzing around the area looking for marijuana crops from the air. When it crashes, Anna gets assigned to help the aviation investigators. But as usual, Anna goes much deeper than the official investigation. Her sleuthing juices are stimulated when it becomes clear theat the plane was sabotaged. Since two men died in the crash, it's daunting to figure out which one was meant to be the target. The island is home to wild horses deer and wild pigs, and full of rattlesnakes, spiders and ticks. Anna is beleaguered by chiggers and ticks in this book, well as well suffering assaults from the human species. Between the insects and the heat, this is no island paradise. As usual there are plenty of interpersonal dramas among the park personnel, and Nevada Barr's characters are always vibrant and interesting. There's also an unexpected development in this book with FBI agent Frederick Stanton, Anna's long-distance boyfriend.I really like this series. Nevada Barr never fails to keep me riveted to the page.

Stay in the dark...
Anna Pigeon is a Park Ranger, as is her creator Nevada Barr. Throughout her stories it is evident that she knows the political structure of her business as well as the "landscape" as a ranger.Anna also finds murderers and solves many types of crimes--this is no exception.Endangered Species is set in the Cumberland Island National Seashore park off the Georgia Coast. Lights are not allowed on the coast when the loggerhead turtles are hatching because the hatchlings will go toward the light which must take them to the ocean. Protecting the species is the responsibility of the rangers, and Ms. Barr provides great detail in the settings as well as scientific reasoning. This is filled with a variety of adventures and intriguing characters--and they are believable. It is easy to become wrapped up in the story.

Seashore Murder
Storytelling at its finest, Nevada Barr's ENDANGERED SPECIES features the little known Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia, home to the Loggerhead Turtle, which many have fought for to bring back from the edge of extinction. The island is on our must visit list the next time we are on the east coast and I'm sure to read this addition to the Anna Pigeon series for its descriptions of the fauna and wildlife of the island. The story is marred by too many characters, it becomes confusing but Barr's powerful prose keeps your eye glued to the page.Nash Black, author of WRITING AS A SMALL BUSINESS and SINS OF THE FATHERS.

Didn't like main character
Tried this book to see if I could get into a new author and new series. Lots of description of the park, but the main character was not someone I wanted to spend any more time with.
