Loved this book. Could not put it down! Loved the plot development as well as character maturation in the entire series. Sure, I am an adult. But I think the target age group would also get a kick out of reading this series all the way through. The revelations of secrets and family truths were delightful.I like how Max is twelve but has teen concerns. His love triangle with Paloma and Cecilia is brilliantly created and so relatable when they move away. The portrayals of tio Lalo and tio Rodolfo are honest and real (and central to the plot though Max is still the hero).The illustrations are outstanding - as for every book by Xavier Garza. The themes, positive and thought-provoking, would reward reading in schools, libraries, and homes. This is a series where the latest book is truly the best. Read it and find out why.
