Prescriber's Guide: Stahl's Essential Psychopharmacology

Best reference book for Psych meds. GET THE SPIRAL-BOUND VERSION!!! I love it.
Awesome reference book for psych medications. Medications are arranged in alphabetical order by generic name. each medication has details about therapeutics, side effects, dosing and use, special populations, and the art of psychopharmacology. Of course each one of these sections go into further details of the medication and provide you with nearly everything essential you need to know as a provider about the medication. There is a great INDEX in the back!!! First it lists trade names and generic names with the pg number (pretty simple). There is also an "Index by Use" where disorders are listed alphabetically with the list of medications that treat that disorder; even better the FDA APPROVED MEDICATIONS ARE IN BOLD for even quicker information dissemination. As a student I love this detail. Lastly there is an "Index by Class" where drug classes are listed alphabetically with their numerous drugs listed below (also, pretty simple). It's the best book you can get for learning medications during clinicals as a student and it also makes a great reference book for the experienced psych provider.I highly recommend the SPIRAL-BOUND version. Definitely worth the extra money. I use this book frequently during my PMHNP clinicals and leave the book open on the desk for reference. The paper-back version Does not always stay open on the desk unless you are actively holding it open. It's a thick book, but only 6" wide, which meakes it skinny and easily closes on itself. All my peer students wish they had bought the SPIRAL-BOUND version as we keep these open for reference all day long. Although, my Preceptor doesn't use his copy like I do. He just uses it for the occasional quick reference, therefore he doesn't need to keep his open on the desk. He does fine with paper-back. If you're going to use this book a lot, get the spiral-bound.

Essential
Full of great information - far more than the usual "drug book." I bought this for school and have found it intensely useful. I will continue to buy this product as it is updated and can see that in practice it will be vital. A solid buy.

Classic
I’m a nurse practitioner student in psychiatry so I use this constantly. I LOVE the way it’s organized; so easy to find what I need.I bought the spiral bound edition and I wish I hadn’t. Because the book is so thick, the spiral binding is HUGE and takes up a ton of room in my bag. The normal binding is easy to use.

MUST HAVE!
This book is HANDS DOWN the best book I have ever encountered for prescribing (and no they didn't pay me to write this review). So helpful. Gives SO MUCH useful information on every drug that I could ever need. It is my new bible as I am graduating shortly with my DNP.

My go to as a NP working in outpatient psychiatry.
Very detailed and useful reference compared to dynamed and other general drug references about dosing, monitoring, side effects, mechanism of action. I use this a lot when patients ask me a question I don't know the answer to.

YOU MUST BUY (don’t but kindle edition)
If you are in psych and are prescribing then you NEED this food. It has EVERYTHING in it from dosages to titrations to weaning and d/c'ing to adjunct care to WHATEVER ELSE YOU MAY NEED (or not even know you need).**kindle edition is awful. Do not waste your money on the kindle edition it is unreadable.

awesome resource for primary care providers
awesome resource for primary care providers who want to go in more depth with their psychiatric medication knowledge and treatment. With mental health resources being so scarce for many of our patients in most need, I am grateful to have a resource that broadens my scope of treatment before having to refer.
