Nice set but?
Very nice set, has a lot of sizes that the average sets don't have, case is metal 👍. Need to replace a cheaper set I have. The only thing is I think I got a returned one due to me missing a DIE. Fortunately the DIE it's missing I don't need right now, so I will just order the Missing one. Needed two different taps to finish a job on a small engine and both work great

Handy
Nice large set of tap and die. The talks have come in handy for several projects. The included case helps to keep everything together. The dies have been useful for cleaning up slightly damaged threads a few times.

many of the taps are of poor quality ..
if you want to use a tap guide forget it many of the taps are not ground right on the ends. also the teeth are not cut well .. great customer service , but I don't have a good tap and die set

Almost an entire tap and die set in one box.
I had the taps and dies I was able to find in my father's shop, which was a complete set except for the tap handles, which were easy to buy, and the die handles, which were not.I was surprised and delighted to find that the old dies would fit in the smaller, new die handle. Not only that, but the set of thread gauges for Standard I already had covered for the two sets of Metric gauges that came with the new set. 85 out of 86 is pretty good... So now I have a 50-plus year-old set which looks brand new except for some metal cuttings on the common sizes, and a new set that is not quite so beautiful but seems plenty good for my work in soft steel, aluminum, and hard plastic.I had to secure the reverse-threaded clamping blocks in the new tap handles because they were not tight and kept falling out every time I spun the handles open. This was not a feature of the tap handle I already had. Not elegant, but easily undone. Can anyone explain the 1/8 27-threaded die that is included within the die handles in both kits? It looks like a 3/8 or so. I know, I'm marked as a newbie by having to ask. there must be a good story here.I think I paid about $6.00 a few years ago for the 1/4 20 tap and drill bit combo. This set feels like a good deal.

Tap tap tap!!!
I’ve wanted a quality tap and die set for a very long time, and to my delight this set has met or exceeded all expectations!!I had my reservations regarding this set because I’ve seen the quality of these “mass produced big box store sets” out there. They always left something to be desired, and I didn’t want anything to do with that. So I have been piecemealing a very meager excuse for a tap and die set. finally I decided to order this set, and it has come in handy more times than I care to admit! Having access to just about every standard SAE and metric tap or die has some amazing advantages.I worried that the quality of this product would be lacking, but I have found nothing but a fine product. I have put my set through many situations: different types of metal, different types of plastic, even a rare piece of wood… The only issue being operator error in one circumstance, and that was regarding the correct thread pitch. For the price point I don’t think you could do better with a similar style set, and so far I have nothing but praise to give this owl set. If you’re in the market check these out I highly recommend it!! If anything changes in the future I’ll come back and edit this post.

Good basic tap and die set containing all the sizes you are likely to need
The Owl Tools Tap and Die Set provides all of the basic thread sizes that you are likely to need for hobby and DIY work in both imperial and metric dimensions. The overall quality appears quite good, certainly adequate for general purpose use. They are packaged in robust steel case, however, the vacuformed trays are a bit flimsy and are likely to begin to crack with time. Not a deal breaker for me, but at the price point, I would expect the packaging to be a bit sturdier. The cutting tools appear to be of good quality and I am confident they will be adequate for the typical light to medium duty applications that I encounter. I am particularly happy with the tap handles. The tap handles provided with entry level tap and die sets are usually flimsy and unable to securely hold the cutting tool. The handles provided with this set exhibited none of these problems. As a test, I tapped a 5/16-18 thread in piece of 3/16" mild steel bar stock. While not the most strenuous of tests, it is what I had handy and is reasonably representative of the type of work I most often encounter. I had a bit more difficulty starting the tap than I might normally expect, but once started, it cut quickly and produced a clean thread.Overall, I am very happy with this set, although I did knock off one star for the flimsy packaging trays. Priced at $99.99, I consider it to be a fair value given the overall quality and completeness the set, and I recommend it to any hobbyist or DIYer that is looking to get a complete tap and die set.
