It detects propane which is a combustible gas. Not sure if it detects any other types of gas.

No, an alarm sounds to let you know there is a gas leak. It does not shut the gas off.

Ehat happens when detector is expired?

When it expires, it emits a piercing sound. It will continue to do this until it is replaced.

Does it come with lead wires already wired in? How long, what gauge? Thanks.

It comes with lead wires they are already wired in 4 or 5 inches long. I'm going to guess it's 16 gauge but that is only a guess hope this helps

Fine replacement unit

I used this to replace the old one that came in my fifth wheel. It was easy to install and only took a few minutes to do, and it started working right away. I don't love needing to replace it every five years, but at least it's not too expensive and it's easy to do.

Perfect replacement, but no connector

Works perfectly. Easy installation, although it did not include the connection. I had to clip the connector off the old one to splice onto the end of this one.
