Built like a tank, full of life... and surprises!
This isn’t a review of the Lenovo T430. You already know why you’re buying an older refurbished T-series, rather than a modern consumer-grade laptop in a thin and shiny plastic case with a fancy GPU; a laptop that’s disposable by design. This is a review of my experience with the T430 I received from this particular seller. I hold Amazon to a high standard in terms of allowing third parties to sell used hardware and MS Windows licenses as Prime partners, but after reading some of the reviews of this item/seller, I wondered if I’d be sending my next-day delivery right back! The T430 and Lenovo branded psu arrived enveloped in a custom air pillow. The pillow was inside a fitted box, loose inside a much larger box. This might’ve been disconcerting if a traditional hdd were inside, but alas, no damage. I was surprised by how clean the laptop was. Cosmetic wear is limited to the keycaps and trackpad, and the outline of some “Intel Inside”-type stickers removed on the lid. The key switches feel like new. I’m really kinda shocked by how clean the gaps and seams are (I shouldn’t be, since I paid for a laptop, not bits of food and the former owner’s DNA samples), The trackpad could use some tlc. It’s responsive, but the buttons are too easy to press and the texture is peeling up around the edges. It’s too small to be useful, anyway, and I prefer the Trackpoint device. The buttons on the latter feel great. My boring HD display must’ve replaced a damaged HD+ unit. I was psyched when I realized the laptop contains both integrated (Intel) and discrete (NVIDIA) GPUs. I’ll probably add a $50 aftermarket HD+ LCD for a big resolution increase. My battery is remarkably functional for its age. I’m able to get a couple of hours of average use before it dies. Not great, but I expected to be tethered to an outlet. I opted for an new extended battery regardless. My T430 also came with a Sierra Wireless Gobi 3000 cellular modem + GPS module installed. I have no use for the modem per se, but being able to synchronize the system clock almost anywhere (for free) is one of the coolest surprises I could’ve received in a system I’m using for portable JT65/FT8 amateur radio work, which demands a stable clock. My webcam isn’t missing, as others have mentioned The system came with a stock Windows 10 Pro installation, where the end user needs to finalize the setup process. Look underneath the chassis for a genuine SN decal. The start of the license key needs to be scratched off like an instant lottery ticket. I suspect the folks complaining about bogus keys don’t realize that. Funny. Amazon wouldn’t stand for sellers peddling pirated/fake Microsoft products! All the necessary drivers are preinstalled, and there’s no sketchy third party junk to remove. This laptop is awesome. I couldn’t have asked for a better deal on a more durable and feature-packed system. This seller delivered, and then some!

Very pleased with this laptop!
Reading the other reviews, it seems like there are at least a couple of vendors who supply these refurbed laptops through Amazon. Mine came from LapTop Of The Line, so my comments are for what I received from them and your experience may be different from a different vendor. I couldn't be more pleased with what I received. I've wanted a Lenovo ThinkPad for quite a while, and with a limited budget a refurbed machine is all I can afford. The T430 certainly meets all of my needs. Fast processor and plenty of RAM for what I do with a computer. Don't expect the T430 to be in the ultrabook class, though. They' chunky, heavy, and built like a battleship. Mine arrived in wonderful condition. In fact, other than the Intel and Lenovo stickers on the keyboard being worn, I would have been hard pressed to say it wasn't actually new. No signs of wear and tear or damage at all. Mine was shipped the day I ordered it, and arrived the next day; not surprising since I only live about 100 miles from the vendor. My only "gripe" is that the battery is showing it's age - I'm only getting a couple of hours out of a full charge, but that's to be expected of an older computer. I probably won't even bother replacing it because the computer never leaves my house so I'm always in range of an electric outlet to plug it in to. LapTop Of The Line includes a "getting started" sheet in the box, and they have a video at their web site showing you how to activate Windows. (And they put the Activation sticker on the back of the computer, not under the battery!) Overall, what I received is probably a little better than I expected to end up with, so I'm very happy with the computer and the vendor.

Not perfect but still a great deal
I was a little nervous buying this, pretty good reviews, but seller was Blazing Prices when I ordered. Currently has 94% positive 12 mo. rating, but only 89% 30 day rating, so it looks like customer service is going down. Well, I got the laptop, in generic box with the correct 90watt adapter, no instructions or anything else. Well packaged, laptop looks brand new, and I think never used (not even a speck of dust on the fan). I did check ALL of the hardware, webcam works, battery life 2 hours, all keys good. Only defect I found was dvd player could not read home burned dvds. Burned dvds fine, and they played on another computer, but not on this one. Commercial dvds and cds play just fine, so it has a slightly defective dvd player. I didn't send it back because who uses dvds anymore anyway, and I didn't want to chance getting one with more significant problems. I wonder if some of these "refurbished" units are factory seconds? Keyboard is very good, better than most other laptop keyboards, though not as good as the older ThinkPads (I have an even older X100e ThinkPad with a better keyboard). As others have said, very good hardware and specs for the $205 shipped that I paid. Fast booting, fast working... great machine. Windows 10 installed wo problems and activated with the number on the label on the bottom of the computer. You do have to scratch off the silver stuff covering the first 4 numbers. Anyway, I'm very happy.

Great Linux laptop.
This laptop is still a great purchase in 2019 for a few reasons. 1. It is affordable. Seriously, if you want something cheaper than this you're probably going to have to settle for something that either has a very cheap and easy to scratch touch pad or just a straight up chrome book. Nothing against chrome books, but they aren't real computers. 2. The keyboard is responsive and the keys are similar enough to what you'd expect from the old IBM keyboards. 3. These computers are classics. Frankly you just can't get that classic aesthetic with other more modern machines. 4. Are you a Linux user? If not then what are you even doing with yourself mate? But for real, my machine came with windows 8 installed and ready for setup, which of course I didn't finish with because I don't know how to use windows but if I did then I would've been just fine. 5. My girlfriend says I have to apologize to all windows users, so I'm sorry for being mean about your OS. 6. The red dot works as a pretty great alternative for a the touch bad but my girlfriend says it'll take off your finger prints if you use it too much. So far I still have my finger prints. 7. If you buy this and the wifi doesn't work DO NOT PANIC! There is a switch on the right side which toggles airplane mode. 8. This laptop came with a CD drive. I thought those were all destroyed in the war. 9. The CD drive keeps opening on me. So the laptop might be haunted. 10. The battery on this lasts really long. Possibly because the laptop has supernatural properties, see point 9. 11. There is an emergency mute button... do with that what you will. 12. The laptop also comes with an anti-pop-singer button... I have yet to find a use for this button. 12. (a) My girlfriend says that this button is actually for turning off the microphone. Alright that's all for now. Will post a 1 year update. See ya then.

Good laptop. Wrong battery. Unresponsive Seller.
I got the laptop and it booted up nice a quick. Works pretty good (had to mess with the sound settings a bit). The touchpad isn't the best. It sometimes doesn't respond or responds weak. It wasn't cleaned and didn't look like it had been cleaned anytime in the recent past. It does seem to run pretty fast like expected and hasn't seemed to glitch or anything. Most everything seems to check out. The big thing is that it came with the wrong battery. Buying refurbished laptops can be a gamble so I was hoping I could just get the right batter from the seller and send this one back but they have yet to acknowledge the message I sent them. I needed this immediately for school so I'm not happy. I am basically stuck with an extremely lightweight desktop. It shouldn't be that hard to at least contact a customer back. Amazon won't do anything unless I send the entire laptop back but I need it right now for college. Like at this very second. Basically, I'd recommend the laptop but not the seller and honestly if you have a problem, don't bother talking to Amazon about it. Cross your fingers and hope for the best and be willing to throw more money into it to get it working properly.

Ordered T430, Rcvd T430S and wrong power supply
First, these look to be high quality refurbs and they are. But, a couple issues. One: all the people on here complaining about poor battery life - its not the battery, its the power supply. Seller ships with 65W power supply. Lenovo requires 90W. Contact Seller and request correct 90W power supply, or buy one on Amazon for like $15. Two: I ordered T430, and seller shipped T430s. There are differences between the models - not necessarily good or bad differences, just differences. I contacted seller to request correct power supply; havent received after nearly a week. Had to purchase them separately. Seller said they would ship them and an RMA for the 65w power supplies (havent received either). I order these for price-sensitive customers. They are otherwise, exactly as descrived and function very well. The Lenovo Thinkpads are work horses in business., New, they can easily be $1200-1800 - and in previous lives, I have purchased them at those prices direct from Lenovo and was happy with them. For the price here, these are an excellent value, even if I have to purchase the correct power supply as I did in this case. **Update 2/24/18 - Seller shipped correct 90W Lenovo power supplies. No RMA for the 65W, but they made the deal mostly right. The differences between the T430 and T430S arent significant enough for me to return the laptops, though for some, may be a deal breaker. Check before you play with it. **Update 5/24/19 - ordered additional - the T430 they sent me today did not include a TPM chip on the BIOS. It is 4 yrs old (which is fine), but it didnt have a TPM chip. If you are intending to encrypt this - make sure you are getting one with a TPM chip. I just wasted 4 hours imaging one.

An amazing tank of a workhorse at an amazing price!
For $200 this is an amazing workhorse. The laptop is built like a tank, the keyboard is the most comfortable I have ever used on a laptop, and it’s crazy powerful for something 6 years old. I installed Ubuntu on it and I am running my development environment on it (Node.js, Springboot, Docker, MongoDB) and it runs it all without a hitch. As a renewed product it has minimal wear and looks almost brand new. The only thing I don’t like is that the screen has a couple dead pixels and is a little washed out. But that’s washed out compared to a Retina display...which isn’t a fair comparison. Also, the screen is roughly a 720p display...so it’s not fantastic in that regard...but once again...it’s $200. And it is perfect as a work computer or a daily driver laptop. Just don’t expect to game on it.

Incredible value per $, works like a charm, sticky trackpad on occasion
I ordered this computer after much vetting and have been able to use it for a couple weeks now. I was coming from a Mac so there was much to get used to but I made sure I got a computer with an SSD to make the startup times comparable. I can say that this computer is amazing bang for your buck. I can't how long it's going to last since I do not know the future but it has upgraded 8GB ram, SSD, and mine actually DID come with a webcam. The only issue I have so far is that the track pad is very finnicky. Sometimes my trackpad clicks when I am not intending it to, and sometimes my track pad freezes (in which case, right-clicking usually fixes it). The computer also feels very. very durable and brick-like--to me, this is a big plus. Overall, I love the product so far.
