When you reapply to the hot grill for each step do you use a paper towel with tongs still or something more heat proof?

I use a flimsy spatula or one of them basting brushes that are also made of flexible plastic that takes over 400 deg heat. Don’t leave it on there just use it to move the oil around. When it stops smoking that’s when you know you’re done. I use a paper towel that’s folded up a few times with tongs and soak up whatever is left. Hope that helps
