Photographer's Guide to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX10/LX15: Getting the Most from Panasonic's Advanced Compact Camera

The Panasonic manual for this camera is over 300 pages on the features (and there are many) of this camera. The "Photographers Guide..." explains how to use those features. It is a softcover, 200 page,8 1/2 x 11 tome for those who want to find out how to navigate through the myriad features and abilities of this fine camera.I read most of the manual and took the camera on a vacation to Ireland. The sheer volume of what this camera can do was wasted since, most of the time, I couldn't get the particular feature to work. Fortunately there is a "snapshot" mode that I mostly used and was very happy with the result.Since returning home I, quite accidentally, discovered this book on Amazon and immediately purchased it. If only I'd known of it's existence before my vacation. I thought I understood this camera but boy was I wrong. It goes through the nuances of all the settings (and I do mean all) and what is automatically turned off or on at each setting. How to use the settings and when to use them based on what kind of picture you want to take.I will say that this camera is NOT for the novice photographer unless you are willing to take the time to become a better photographer. However, if the LUMIX DX-10 is your camera of choice, then this guide should be in your hands.

This is my third Alexander White book on a camera in Panasonic's Lumix LX camera series. I also have his books on the LX 5 and LX 100 cameras. As any purchaser of the LX camera series knows, Panasonic provides new owners with only a very rudimentary owner's handbook and instruction manual. An Advanced Manual can only be found and downloaded from the web, something I found not at all convenient as well as time-consuming and inconvenient to download, print and use as a more convenient and ready source of information. You would think that for the price the camera costs, an Advanced owner's instruction would be included as part of the package or that at the very least, it would be made available for purchase as an accessory. In lieu of this, I have found White's Guides, entirely instructive, informative and very easy for this senior citizen and serious amateur photography enthusiast to understand and use. Hooray for Alexander White!

Essential guide to complicated camera, unless you would rather read the small print online manual of 308 pages.The LX 10 has many buttons; and if you accidentally push one while handling the camera, it may go off into some routine like 4K that ties it up for one or more minutes so you'll miss your next photo opportunity. The Photograph's Guide in convenient hard copy seems to cover everything. It will help keep you from activating unwanted settings and explain how to use the ones you want. The information is easily found and understood. We could all wish for a lower price, but I say get it anyway. Couldn't be better!

A mostly well-written, reasonably detailed introduction to the camera's controls and capabilities. While the author takes pains to point out that his intended audience is beginning and intermediate photographers, even advanced users sometimes need an introduction to a new camera. This book fills that bill.

if you bought the Panasonic LX10, you really need to buy this book. I wish it came in a smaller size but, the amount of info is invaluable! the LX10 is a great but complicated little camera. this book helps to break it down into a more manageable process. I wish I had bought before our trip to hawaii but, I have it now. very thorough guide.

Easy to use for the person who's not an expert photographer and has the tools for the more sophisticated photographer.

I'm a keen amateur photographer and I wanted to buy a small but high quality camera to carry around when i didn't want to lug around my larger kit camera. The DMC-LX10/LX15 fitted the bill. However, as with many of the high end cameras these days there are so many features built in that it can be quite mesmerizing /daunting reading a manual that simply provides you with bare lists of features without context. I first downloaded a sample of this book on my Kindle and was sufficiently impressed by what I read to buy the hard copy version - I can go through that at my leisure and use 'stickit' notes to highlight key information within it - then I remember things! The book itself is substantial, being printed on high quality paper with very clear text and decent pictures. The chapters and sections are set out logically and lead you through ALL the features of the camera in a clear, intelligent, helpful and useful fashion. This is a very carefully put together book by someone who has intimate knowledge and enthusiasm for the camera and who is also a knowledgeable photographer. Chapters are also cross referenced and there is a good and effective index. Unique features of the camera are well explained and the author tries to help you understand what you want to use the camera for so that you can set it up the way you want rather than being prescriptive and saying 'these are the best settings/ones that i use and so should you'. So it's a really intelligent book that helps you understand the possibilities and limitations of the camera such that you can get the best out of it. I also like the sections at the end that point you towards accessories, other resources for the camera and provide some 'quick tips'. This is a really enjoyable, easy to read, informative and highly useful book that is extremely well-written and produced. I love it and am very impressed - it really is helping me get the best out of my camera in terms of both pictures, enjoyment and satisfaction. I spent a lot on this camera and this allows me to really get value from it. I am so glad that someone took the very considerable effort to produce this book - thank you ! Very well worth buying. only complaint is that it is a bit big and heavy but the book explains all the salient points and more. Cannot understand reviewers who give it less than 4 stars 5 is best though.Maybe the bad reviewers thought all that was needed when buying a camera was the ability to look at the screen and they would become great photographers. I have had a camera for 60years but will admit that I am still learning.
