Wendigo: A Thriller

Wendigo is a Great Book with a Solid Story and Fascinating Characters
Wendigo is one of those books that you pick up and hate to put down. Vaughn Hardacker creates a picture of northern Maine in winter as a frigid, bitter environment that is home to the relentless, savage wendigo that stalks humans as its primary food source. Cursed, the more the wendigo eats, the more it craves. John Bear, a lone wildlife warden and, Canadian Indian, knows and understands the truth of the creature. As the ravaged bodies stack up, the warden seeks a means to stop the slaughter.

A decent book 3.5/5
Not the greatest book I've read. It was interesting. Lots of action and just the right amount of gore considering the main antagonist. One major continuity mistake was it says a part of the book took place in 1996 at the beginning. But after that they say it was 2003. And I will say the amount of coffee drank by the characters was a bit... exxessesive. Like every three pages someone is drinking coffee. The story was good. I felt for the main character. The side characters were all unique and easy to understand. The little town atmosphere was super cozy and gave a homey relief amidst the terror. The antagonist is legitimately scary and interesting and the plot kept me going.Worth a read. But at a discount, I'm not going to sugar coat it. I enjoyed it. But I don't feel like there's much to sing praises about. Would be a great book to read on a weekend trip to the mountains that might up the tension a little more.

Out of this world!
I read "Wendigo" in 1-1/2 days, I just could not put it down! It is a fantastic book with many different characters and the descriptions were well written. This was the first book of his I read and it blew me away! Truly a masterpiece and I cannot wait to read more novels from this outstanding author.

I wanted to read some fiction about the Wendigo and so found and downloaded this book.It was interesting, giving some lore on the Wendigo and the northern Maine winter. Characters were also fairly interesting.I was also struck by how much coffee the main characters drank. Lots and lots of coffee.☕

Fine monster story
A thriller all they way to the end, with authentic details and plenty of turns. A fine one to take on a camping trip.

Exciting read and good information about N Maine and native beliefs. One of the better Wendigo stories from what I have read.

I received this book as a gift from my wife, Ina Cox. Her brother, Alan, and Vaughn wer eCaribou high school friends. This is not the sort of story I usually read, however I really enjoyed it. I am familiar with some of the places mentioned and made the read even more enjoyable. Thank you, Vaughn for an entertaining read. I'll read your other books now

Well done for mythological narratives.
The entire story was very well done. The author did a great job to explain and convey the nature of the beast. It was a good combination of mystery, horror and action. I can't really say that I have any negative feedback.

Exciting book, slightly disappointing ending.
A good read, I found myself pulled into the plot line and reading very excitedly! I personally found the ending slightly disappointing after all the build up, but over all, a good read!

Great thriller with slight supernatural undercurrents
I really enjoyed this book - it is as much about the Maine wilderness and the people who live there as it is about the manhunt. The ending was not a surprise but the actual journey was well worth it.

Definitely well worth the read. A real page-turner that wouldn’t let me put it down and kept me on the edge of my seat!

maybe expecting a twilight like novel?
Review above BY M. King doesn't quite cut it, maybe expecting a twilight like novel???The survival elements, being out in the generally freezing conditions, use of weaponry, some tracking elements, the use of silver and horror are quite good. Possibly some pacing issues, as it does have extra padding and could have been wrapped up earlier. But otherwise, combination of survival in cold harsh environment, a little native American myth/horror & lore, small list of just about right characters, otherwise could have been much worse. However, it was overpriced it could have been cheaper. The authors other books were set at a better price point...

It's a bore fest
Bought this, at its extravagant price after reading recommendations of this authors work...big mistake unfortunately. It's told in the most boring, matter of fact way, with no amount of suspense or atmosphere. It's basically a police procedural on hunting a violent killer. And it's so repetitive and dull as to be beyond belief :Wendigo kills someone in a gory but matter of fact way...zero tension.Authorities go hunting for Wendigo and partially engage then turn back because it's getting too dark.Authorities go back to camp and have a coffee and discuss matters.REPEAT ABOVE...AD NAUSEUMA really awful , over-priced book.
