Closes My Stubborn Door - Good Instructions
The thing works perfectly.By adjusting the closing speed, I was able to get the thing to shut my terribly stubborn door. Specifically, I have the last 15% degrees shut quickly, so the door sort of slams itself shut, which is just what is required in my case. They must have improved the instructions, because I found them perfectly understandable after looking at them for about three minutes. The hole-drilling template worked well. One side of the instructions is for a left-hand door (i.e., with the door handle on the left side of the door, when looking at it from the side of the door that the door opens in toward). The other side is for a right-hand door.Enjoy,Scott

Poor instructions, quality product.
The instructions had it a hair too low on an aluminum storm door. It turns out that I could have mounted it a bit higher without any problems, so be aware of that clearance. To fix the problem, I took off the amount sufficient for clearance to the Arm Pivot Bracket Assembly with a grinder. I will most likely be installing more of these. The reason I bought this particular type of closure was because it gave me a 180° open. The issue here is strong wind, which was destroying the pneumatic door closers. Another reason was that the pneumatic door closers have a loud squeaky noise, and they hit one in the butt or in the Achilles' tendon as one tries to enter or exit. After proper adjustment the Dorence door closer swings slowly, smoothly and quietly between 180° and 15°, giving one enough time to enter or exit. After 15° it closes quickly and sufficiently fast enough to latch the door. The next item I will install is a door stop to hold the door open when needed.

Bad instructions, bad template, poor performing product, and a big mess
This is among the worst things I've purchased.First off, the instructions are terrible, it took a while to understand how to install this thing. Second, the template is not accurate. I followed the template exactly and the screws went into a dead space, completely missing the door jamb, so I raised it up and got it to attach. But it was clear that there was no way the door was going to close at the position specified by the template, so I moved it so that up to give the assembly a chance at working. It "sort of" worked, but we could not get it to shut at a reasonable speed or soft-close at a reasonable speed. There was no configuration that worked well. It just "sort of" worked. Then, as we are fiddling with the speeds and testing the door close, I get sprayed with a bunch of lubricant coming out of the adjustment hole. Gross. So now I have holes all over my door and door frame and a lubricant mess to clean up. Did I install it correctly? I think I did, but honestly there's no way to know because the instructions are so terrible. Really a terrible product experience from start to finish.

Works very well, easy to install and no more slamming doors.
This product works very well on my garage door entrance to the house. The solves the slamming door problem from the older spring loaded hinges. Easy to install on the my steel door. The instructions on the template were pretty clear. The required force to open the door is a little more than i would like, but i think we can get used to it.It woud be nice if the internal spring could be adjusted for less force.Just an update,, now that the weather has turned colder.I have this installed on the garage side of the door, and now the door closes much slower.Who knew oil gets thicker when it get colder? I might reinstall it on the inside of the door if it becomes an issue.

Product is great, instructions and hardware are terrible.
The product itself is great. Well constructed and it does what it is supposed to. There are two problems though: the hardware and the instructions. To start, the screws included are 1/2". That means that if you use the included screws on the door frame, you are only screwing this into the trim and not the more substantial frame of the door. If you do this, the screws will eventually either rip out or rip your door trim off. You need to go out and buy longer screws to install this properly. The second and more pressing problem is the instructions. The templates included in the package are dead wrong. If you install this consistent with the template, the unit will not clear the door, and the arm will not have enough travel to allow the door to open fully. I am an experienced handyman, and it still took several hours of trial and error to figure out the correct placement of the unit on the door. Thank goodness it is installed on the inside of a pantry door, so the 15 or so screw holes I made trying to figure out the correct placement won't show. If you are not mechanically inclined or need this installed correctly on the first go, I would suggest looking for a different product.

Surprisingly high quality, esp. for the price
I needed to replace the closer on a basement door, and ordered this one as sort of a gamble, since the price was about $15 cheaper than any other. When it arrived I was surprised to see that it was about 30% smaller than the existing unit (which was from the 1970s). This made me worry that it was going to be too weak to close a steel door that probably weighs 80 pounds or more.Installation was a little tricky, but I eventually figured it out and got it mounted.I was shocked to find that it worked as soon as I had mounted it, with no adjustment at all! It operates fairly slowly, but that's fine, and it handles the weight of the door without issue.I need to replace 2 other closers, and I will be ordering 2 more of these.

Does what it says
I have it install to the outside ( modified disregard the instruction type installation)It installed with the basic design parameters in mind but at the edge of those parameters and It operates smoothly without jerky motion.Adjustment took me about five minutes in my application and all I hear is the click of the latch. It still latches shut completely at the same rate whether opened all the way or just a few inches.I can still pull the door open quickly with without much resistance and it doesn't effect the adjustment.Pushing the door shut quickly does not let it slam.Making mm size turns to the adjustment screws makes for a noticeable effect.
