Worship: The Ultimate Priority

Worship opens the door to a relationship like mom other!!!
There is a big difference between the worship taking place in 2020 culture and what is Biblically correct and Dr John MacArthur eloquently explains how God directs and guides Christians to worship Him. I feel I have been missing out because I really didn't understand how to worship and how to surrender all my superficial and meaningless routines and 7/11 type music. Seven words or less, sung Eleven times does not bring me to an intimate place with my Lord. John MacArthur teaches what God says about how He want us to adore and revere Him. I am so grateful for this remedial material. It has enhanced my life on every level.

Worship focused on God and how we are to worship him for who he is, not what he can do for us. Thank you John!
John has captured the true definition of worship for the first time since the "new" Praise and Worship trend took over many of America's churches. True worship isn't the music. Music elicits feelings and worship comes from the heart, not emotion. To many, "events" in the church are centered on things that are meant to make us feel good and put us in, what they call, a corporate worship mindset. Pastor MacArthur explains true worship, using the Bible and verses that expound on his teaching. John puts worship back on God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit where they belong. Not in some emotional fervor brought on by music, ordered in a manner, that centers on how we feel. Rather the heart of worship, that focuses on God for who he is and what he has done for us and worshipping him in a manner more consistent with the Word. He teaches how music has gone from hymns, to gospel, to the me-centered music so prevalent in todays churches. Worship is not about what God can do for me, rather what we can do for God. A concept rarely seen in the "supermarket" God that is there to answer prayer about what we want. Not Biblical. God supplies our needs through his riches in Glory. Not through works, but how we love Him. Read this book, in my view, to learn how to worship the biblical God, supported in Scripture, rather than in our minds. It's not about how you feel, more how you let God have the glory he so richly deserves. He does talk about the "new" musicians that know four chords on a guitar, who write music that is not Biblical, but focused on emotion. A lot of this book is about feelings, they way they want, so they can bring you to an orchestrated level, created by them, focusing on what you can receive from God. Never the way worship was and is intended to function. I wrote this and I talked about "feelings" a lot. So did John. I can't express enough that true worship is about God, not me.

A very good book. John MacArthur is a great teacher of the Word. The book takes a look from the Word of God at what really constitutes worship. He gets a little heavy on the side of the hymns but he is absolutely on target when he writes that a lot of the songs we sing in churches today are NOT songs of worship they are songs about the worshiper's feelings and have little, if any Scripture based lyrics. I play in a worship band and my gripe has always been too many songs about us and not nearly enough about God and His wonders and greatness. He doesn't go so far as to imply that none of today's music is good nor does he state that we should be singing nothing but hymns. He gives much insight into what God really considers worship and what He doesn't. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow deeper in their time spent with the Lord and anyone who wants to understand what true worship is all about.

MacArthur's book: WORSHIP
Dr. John MacArthur's book WORSHIP is, by far, the best book defining what true worship demands. My wife and I have given a copy to our Sunday school class for the members to read and pass on. I was especially pleased that the author's position is also supported by an earlier book by David Wells "No Place for Truth" who also defines true worship. Both authors essentially agree and I quote Wells who makes a succent comment: "...in too many evangelical churches, the casual choral singing ... masquerades as deep worship in too many services, as if [the] celebrating [of] good feelings were the same thing as rendering to God His due."Of these two books, MacArthur's is easier to read--and is, in my opinion, a real page-turner! Knowing our God in order to properly worship Him.
This is a great study on worship. Pastor Macarthur defines and describes what worship really is, showing that our perception on the matter is mostly restricted to one aspect of worship, namely music. Full of biblical references that help us to broaden our research on the subject and really understand our purpose and the proper way to worship our Lord. It is a must read for those who want to fulfill the biblical instruction of knowing our God in order to properly worship Him (in spirit and truth). Two other great books are also essential on the subject: RC Sproul's "A Taste of Heaven: Worship in the Light of Eternity" and Peter Masters' "Worship in the Melting Pot", both available on Kindle.

A book that EVERY Christian and pastor must read
Many Christians seem to think they know and understand what worship is, but do they really? This book is full of rich information that will straighten the skewed view of worship that many Christians and churches have today.

Doctrine filled principles that will change your life
I'm so humbled and honored to read this book. It allows you to look at worship in every area of your life and challenge you to grow in areas of weakness. Have you ever thought of confession as worship? Listening to a message? This book exposes the ways that Christ has created us to continually worship him.

Well worth a read
Well worth a read and gives a different perspective on the subject, a must read to those who want to worship our Lord as he wants to be worshiped. Excellent. Some words used are a little uncommon but you can get the gist (or look them up in the dictionary!).
