Lengthen Your Life - Eat For Health
Jack Challem is a nutrition coach who has good advice for those with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and noninsulin dependent diabetes. If you are overweight or have blood sugar problems this book shows the way to hope and a more energetic lifestyle. Jack Challem will teach you how to eat the right foods and provides lots of delicious recipes you will want to start making right away. This book is about changing habits before you start to experience serious health problems like cancer, heart disease, elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure. I got to page 64 in this book and stopped reading because I had the urge to clean out my pantry. I got rid of sugar, white flour and chocolate chips. I'll have nothing to make cookies with now. Then I went after things in the refrigerator like salad dressings with sugar in them. That is how scary diabetes is. Once you learn what might happen to you if you continue eating certain carbs you will be motivated to make a change before it is too late. Now let me tell you, your body will declare all out war on you when you get rid of sugar. Even though I was rarely eating any sugar my body objected to the idea of limiting carbs so severely. What helped me make it through the first day of this diet was having a strawberry smoothie after dinner. It was just frozen strawberries, stevia and one cup of milk. But it got me through the first day. What I liked about this book was how it helped me make sense of the blood tests my doctor ordered. This book has very helpful information in that regard. Also there are a lot of good ideas for how to order foods at restaurants.Jack Challem explains how a daily walk lowers blood sugar and cholesterol. I also find walking helped lower my blood pressure and eating less salt also helped. So if you are wondering if you can eat foods with sugar alcohols and you want to analyze food labels this book has a lot to offer and answers many questions. While food choices are the main emphasis in this book there is also information on various supplements. Please consult with your doctor before making any drastic changes in your diet. Also talk to your doctor about taking supplements as some may affect your prescription medications.~The Rebecca Review

Your Best Guide to Beat Prediabetes (or Type 2)
The day my doctor told me my A1C score was 6.9 and that I was prediabetic, I left her office very mad at myself. I declared that no way was I going to have this dreadful disease! Period! No shots, no blindness, no amputations - none of those horrid things for me - EVER! The doc gave me some educational materials. I also had a friend who was a diabetic educator for a hospital. She provided me with gobs of helpful info and recommended this book.Within a few days, I was on my way to reversing this diagnosis. Following the guidelines in Stop Prediabetes Now, I was on the way to winning my war. A few steps I took follow: - eat on a 7" plate instead of a 10" plate - master portion sizes - cut the carbs drastically - zero sugar or sugar substitutes - get moving - work some of those calories offWithin 2 months my A1C score had dropped out of the prediabetic range. My doctor was shocked and said she had never seen that happen that fast! Boy, did I ever lose the weight. By the end of the year, several 20# bags of charcoal worth! I can't imagine that I was carrying that much weight up a flight of stairs every time I went up my basement stairs. While I did not follow everything the author suggests, I did master the basics. The book was quite motivational to me. I hope it will be for you and those you love. I consider this a MUST READ for everyone who is 10# overweight, everyone who is either prediabetic or Type 2 already. You don't have to have this disease. Get with this program and enjoy the vast health benefits from your actions. There are zero benefits to staying the way you are and the rewards for making the changes will have you enthused about your new life everyday!

Simple Joy
I hate Diets. hate, hate , hate them. Thankfully that is not what this is. There is no calorie counting (unless you choose to), no overly specialized daily diet plans that you have to plan out months in advance and that fall apart the first time you are in a crunch and don't have three hours to prepare each meal. No unrealistic promises of Hollywood looks. Just simple help. by the time you have read the first half of the book you are already well on your way to feeling better. and on a total side note, you may also loose some weight (I have lost 5 Lbs). But that is truly a side note. the best part is how you feel! I no longer have those awful mid-day energy droughts! I no longer have the uncontrollable need to gorge my self before bed. I wake up more rested, I go to sleep easier, I need far less stimulants during the day and never need them after lunch. And all of this has been accomplished by simply changing a few core foods that I eat. And not to bland tasteless wafers (they actually strictly forbid those kinds of foods). No, you get to eat real food! Tasty food! I have heard so many times that you need to "make a lifestyle change not just go on a diet." and while I totally agree, I have always felt that the lifestyle changes that were presented to me looked like completely unmanageable changes that would result in a full day binge of Taco-Bell and Totinos pizza rolls when my will power finally collapses. But not now. Now I like what I am eating, I am feeling better, and I don't have to worry about my will power, I just have to eat all these fun foods that I love!

So much more than just a book about prediabetes
I’m about one third of the way into this book now and I’m learning so much. My goal is to lower my a1c without taking medication, and I’m confident that this book will help me accomplish that. I learned how cinnamon can lower blood sugar (and cholesterol!), how certain vinegars help to regulate blood sugar, the benefits of fiber, etc. The book talks about vitamins and supplements, has recipes, has a chapter on how to shop at supermarkets, and so much more. Anyone who wants to lose weight should read this book.
